Nope no one

the Beatles and Elvis were prob the closest the mj in terms of icon status but they are not even near him

And he brought the Beatles catalog and married Elvis only daughter. Thats GOAT level Alexander the great/Hannibal type conquering that does not get enough attention.

As for the OP's question. Short answer is NO

It was a different time. No internet, 3 tv channels, no DVRs/VCRs. Entire families would sit around and watch the Motown 25 special LIVE. All eyes were on Mike. All of the stars aligned. Mike was the complete artist. Could dance, sing, and write on a GOAT level. People mention Beyonce and Chris Brown and yet none of them could do all 3 on a legendary level. Maybe one or two. Beyonce needs a team of writers. Chris Brown cant sing and writes trash. Plus Mike had a classic movie under his belt (The Wiz) before he even hit his prime.

The only artist that was close were Sammy and Prince in TALENT. MJ and Prince were born in the same year. Prince however did not break through until 1982 with his 1999 album. So he watched MJs entire child career where he was the best child singer of all time and one of the most famous black faces in the world with the Jackson 5.

I could go on and on

In terms of talent what about James Brown and Jackie Wilson?

People really sleep on B Brown like he's a mattress. Back in the days he was the closest one to giving MJ a run for his money and he had his own style, didn't shark anything from him and built his own wave. Heck even MJ jocked his sound for Dangerous so that tells you whats popping.

In a parallel universe where B stayed clean we would've seen both of these brothers push each other so far creatively, musically and with the steps to create something out of this world because only steel sharpens steel and during his run Brown was coming up hard and had the natural talent to be a problem.

It also would've kept Mike sane because the only competition he felt he had was himself and this would've given him a different focus/mindset which really would've helped. And thats even with the whole "NE sharked J5" thing from back when which goes to show the environment and lifelong dedication it takes to hone that talent into something even close to MJ.
Yeah Bobby was THAT nikka.

I think with time people have forgotten how huge he was from 88-90 and then he had another nice run in 92-93

If we don't agree, it is what it is. I dislike superior talent not putting people on.

"Selective" is hoe shyt to me most cases. Prince cared about the music & fukked with more people, I respect that more.

MJ had an entire record label though, he helped put food on peoples plates and establish careers in the music business, behind the scenes too.

The point about distance/mystique not being possible these days is really good as that was a key part of MJs character and what made him seem so otherworldly because every time he popped up it was an event. He was a master at making his life the greatest show on earth and a lot of that was orchestrated (PT Barum style) to keep him in peoples minds.

He'd call people to meetings and then sit there monitoring them from another room, waiting to see how long it would take them to get to the breaking point of impatience at being kept on hold and then would time his entrance perfectly to bowl them over with charm and attention directed solely at them to create the tension/release crescendo that would then make them hype him up like crazy to the next man they spoke to.

Whats funny about all of this is that it proves that there were two MJs, one was real cold and calculating - always looking for the angle, and the other one was just a straight up kid because who would've believed that the most famous man in the world ain't have shiz else better to do than mess with execs.

Yeah Bobby was THAT nikka.

Yeah, people really downplay that but if you were there at the time you could see that B was creeping on a come up, you've just got to see all of the cameos in On Our Own for proof because everyone was rocking with him like that. 5 top 10 hits off Don't Be Cruel, touring like crazy, awards, mad organic hype and catchy tunes. B was on the cusp of making that Off The Wall to Thriller leap within the next few as he matured as an artist.

Either way, had Pac not got popped we'd have seen B Brown get his 3rd run from 96 onwards as he was going to Makaveli Recordz and him and Pac would've been an unstoppable pair with DR behind them as the vibe, beats and realness of these two on wax would've stomped all over the charts. But Pac chose to stomp all over Lando...

About how old was that girl?

A few months ago I asked my wife's God daughter if she knows who MJ is and she did. She's only 4. I asked if she knew Beyonce' and she said she didn't.
If I had to guess, probably just graduated high school, college age
