Excellent breakdown. Many don’t even bother to educate themselves, they just respond blindly.Yeah, by everyone in this thread.
Three expansion teams just paid 250 million a piece to join the WNBA. The Liberty sold a 20 percent share of the team valued at 450 million.
Now yes, the WNBA did lose 40 million dollars in 2024, but this is in large part due to the TV deal they are currently signed to, which in 2026 goes from roughly 45 Million annually to 200 Million annually.
This will result in essence in the league making money over night from losing 40 to a net gain of 115M just on the TV deal alone. Even if the game and ticket sales were to stop growing, and merch stopped selling, it would still be in the green.
The players don't want to be paid what the men are paid. They want 50 percent of league revenue, as opposed to the 9 percent they get now. They won't get that IMO, but they're well within their rights to ask.
The owners want to keep salary increases small, plus end athlete-owned offseason leagues like Athletes Unlimited and Unrivaled (which nearly broke even in its first year). Why the fukk would you side with the owners?
Thanks for the breakdown. Similar to the NFL situation, if the players really want to force the owners hands, I would say now is the time to do it but they have to be smart about it and realize some of them are going to have to sacrifice. Like you mentioned, the offseason leagues give them a lot of leverage so hopefully they can use that to their advantage. I'm not saying they should get paid as much as the men but if there's been a large influx of money into the league, the players should get a piece of it.Yeah, by everyone in this thread.

I’d imagine those owners (a lot of them NBA ones) want they used to help subsidize the league all those years even if it means taking out of the players pockets.Yeah, by everyone in this thread.

All they want is 50% share which is fair idk what grabbing the rim has to do. Also you suck a math you acting like the nba gave the wnba a loan. With the new deal they aren’t gonna need handouts anymore also revenue from other avenues is rising as players are more popular. This the most hater shyt I’ve seen. Did you not read @phillycavsfan or @RedBull post.Bad at math indeed.....
WNBA has been a league for almost 30 yrs. Losing 50 million a yr over 30 years is 1.5 billion dollars in lost revenue for the NBA. Its gonna take over 10 yrs to turn a profit on the new TV deal. The wnba isn't self sustaining they literally exist on handouts.
The league has a perception that it's infested with dykes and ugly girl lesbian behavior, the girls who ain't gay might get pregnant at any time and miss the rest of the year. All kinds of videos of wnba players being rude and condescending to their fans. So many do not seem to be good people.
I don't understand what they are upset about. They should be grateful for this opportunity and cherishing the role as someone who can be looked back at as a trailblazer for women's sports. Keep it positive at least for the media, be thankful to the nba for keeping your league going when no other professional league in America does this.
Wanting to get paid like the men sounds stupid when most can't even grab the rim and they all move around so slow like double dribble Nintendo characters. Then we gotta listen to them complaining and nagging all the damn time.
Somebody need to tell these hoes to shut the fukk up, respectfully
It's fair, but the problem is that they've lost so much money over the years that the NBA is going to want a cut and return on their ROI for the subsidizing they did all those years. I know they want to break away from the NBA and do the deals on their own, but that's not going to happen unless they can come up with the bread to pay them off on their own and it not cut into their revenue. All they want is 50% share which is fair idk what grabbing the rim has to do.
