If (admittedly big if at this point) he turns them down, they wouldn't go back to JJ, would they? Going from being the odds-on favorite for ~ a month to a Plan B would make for a weird dynamic, I'd imagine.

why should you believe me ? I didnt say anything about this one way or the other

just last week an "NBA insider" reported he would be surprised if anyone but jj reddikk is the coach

I guess chris haynes is not an NBA insider anymore ? :heh:
or do you pick and choose which NBA insiders you trust ?
I'm gonna be honest..... this screams smoke screen

Honestly it feels like both parties have a lot to gain here. Hurley is getting paid peanuts, and he probably deserves more $$ (I think he's getting paid $5 mil a season) and everyone out there uses the Lakers to get more. Pelinka and Hurley family are apparently tight

JJ probably wants a certain amount of $$ to be the coach and the Lakers brass probably don't want to pay him what he wants. So you essentially put out a story that the Lakers are targeting this coach and he's been their 1st candidate all along (essentially telling JJ take the deal cause we can go get someone better) while also getting Hurley a better contract

:lupe: If Magic is tweeting this…might be imminent

Am I crazy, or does it seem like the Lakers found out either no one wants the coaching job or is qualified enough, and are trying to hold Dan Hurley hostage to sign a contract with the Lakers on some "offer you can't refuse" type of thing? Lol

I think whats happening in Rob is hamstrung in certain ways in terms of getting a coach. First off, Lakers just don't give coaches shyt unless they view them as a long term solution. Phil got paid, they were willing to pay Coach K, Luke got a 5 year deal, and now Hurley is getting a big offer. But for anyone else there's only so much Rob (or Mitch previously) is working with. He's gotta offer 3 year deals with average salary, and your years are presumably the same as Bron's remaining years. None of the retread coaches wanna walk into this situation, and going for anyone more ambitious requires a bigger offer. Now who deserves a big offer? Hurley is one of the hottest guys on the market right now, the only guy out who could command that type of offer just off his recent success and reputation. Considering we tried this with Coach K, Kevin Ollie and Juwan Howard previously it's not that surprising we ended up here if the Lakers want to make a move that isnt just a placeholder for the remaining Bron/AD years.

…what?

Stevens was a great coach :dead:
If they raised the talent level at the end of his tenure like he’s done as the exec, they would’ve def got a ring at some point in the 2020s by now

Correction. Brad Stevens was a great coach until Tatum and Brown grew up and we're coming of age as stars. He had trouble adjusting to their growth as players, still ran outdated college style of offense/defense and eventually the players tuned him out

Brad Stevens as a GM is 1000x better

Hopefully this means the end of the LeBron era of the Lakers.

Maybe Jeanie has snapped out of her trance and is making decisions that benefit the long term health of the franchise instead of a 40 year old legend?
Before Lebron got there the lakers were one of the worst teams in the league.

Failed to win 30 games in 4 years and all they had to show for it was Lonzo Ball and Brandon Ingram.
