What is it that you guys are doing thats allowing you to pull 200k? Sales, Systems Analyst, Doctor? I need to step my game up, not even remotely close to that.

Gotta have time to enjoy the money.
By that, I took a position that allows for more free time and only low 6 figures.
I don't think my marriage/family would survive with me being gone the majority of the time.

Brooklyn keeps on taking it.
How important is the salary vs. time for your personal life? Would you take a job paying $200K/yr but it meant working 80-100 hrs a week with no weekends off? Or would you take a job that pays $50K/yr but only has you putting in max 40 hours and not working weekends ever?

I have seen people time and time again quit a high paying job because it is just too demanding. My cousin's husband was an engineer making serious bank. But he worked so many hours sometimes he would sleep in his car while at work because he figured the drive home plus trying to eat and getting ready for bed would cost him hours of sleep because he had to be up and right back to work in less than 6 hours. :francis:

To me what is the point in making a lot of money if you can never enjoy it?

basically a government job vs private sector job.

I would work a few years at the 80-100 hour weekly job, gain some experience and then move on. The 80 - 100 hour job only functions well with companies like google, facebook, tech groups etc who practically babysit their employees with insane amenities.

it also depends on the person. If you can manage money well and have different things you are passionate about then 40 hours a week would be good because you can use the other 40 hours to work on your goals.

These wall street or tech workers usually dont have that option unless they make some crazy stride within their company....for the most part.

Work life balance. I'd take the $50K and use my free time to do something I'm passionate about like music or video production

Some more context... I say this as a nig making 6 figs but has worked his ASS off in the past. It's never been worth it. now here I am wishing I could pursue certain endeavors but I have loans from getting another prestige degree and a mental complex about taking a paycut now.

if you can, always prioritize your time over money.

Why can't it be more than 50k and 40 hours a week? I value work/life balance, but from personal experience $50k really doesn't leave as much disposable income(for me at least) to enjoy time off work, but I guess it depends on where you live. I do know a lot of people that work close to 60-80 hours a week because usually with that salary range--and with more money in general--there are more responsibilities and more work. But, I think you really have to be passionate about what you do, and really vested. I could potentially do 60 hours at a maximum if I loved what I did enough, but definitely not anymore than that. But the $50k, isn't a good salary to me even with the 40 hour work week--there are careers where you also work under 45 hours and can make more than 50k lol...

Neither option for me.

So many ways to make $200k. Doesn't have to be 1 single job.
Mostly shyt like consulting (Acceture etc) pays good once you're at the Project Manager Level.
Sales BDM roles have base + OTE (on target earnings) so shyt like enterprise software sales for Oracle/Salesforce account manager gigs.
Personal trainers on $100 a session x X session a day make bank too.
Tradespeople (carpenters, painters etc) anything with a callout fee where you can charge a premium for your time.
Many ways to get it

Give me the 50k 40hr a week gig. I def have enough time to start a side business and add 20k to that by Eoy. I’m over working 60-80 hrs a week. Did that in my 20’s. I now appreciate coming home and lounging with weekends off.

I actually gave up my 50-60hr a week job, sometimes 70hrs during the holidays to scale back to part time, around 30hrs a week. It's a pretty big pay cut, but I have a side hustle to make up some of the difference. I live in North Carolina so the cost of living is reasonable. It wasn't a big deal working the hours before the wife and kids. My work day would typically start at 9am until 7-8pm on average. Now my work day is maybe 3:30am to 8:30am, then I have a full day to focus on my side hustle, and still be able to make it to all my kids activities, run errands, plan outings with the wife.

I am absolutely not working 80-100 hours a week. Unless we're talking about a 7-figure salary plus ridiculous benefits. no, fukk that. No.

I did..

I worked as a longshoreman for 8 years making $96,000 a year but i had no personal life and I was working 5 and 1/2 days a week and my back was killing me..

I took a huge salary dump over $30,000 dollars for a job I worked 40 hours a week and enjoy my life...more Lakers and Dodgers games and health wise I'm better
