During the beginning of the pandemic, I was laid off at my job and found a job at a warehouse. Worked there for a few weeks, before they hit me with the we need an engineer in the facility for the overnight shift for a few weeks. shyt was from 6pm to 3am. Wouldn’t get outta there until 4 am most nights. After a few weeks, they hit me with the “you did such a good job, and our overall production improved, we wanna try you on there for a few more weeks.”

I remember I just walked outta there one evening around midnight, and hit up a bar. I didn’t return. I couldn’t do it.
If they had kept you on first shift would you have stayed ?

The last lab I worked at, the supervisor was taking zquil to force herself to sleep
I was around a lot of people like that working nights. This was during pre legalization of weed so I didn't tell them what I was doing was just smoking weed. People were struggling to sleep. Napping during breaks.

I'd never work that shift again.

I do 48 hour shifts with limited sleep at night

what y’all complaining bout ain’t nothing:russell:
Nothing to brag about my guy. The toll on your body will be hell. Not eating right and not sleeping enough has sharp deteriorating affects on your health. You don't feel it as much when you younger so you don't get the how unhappy your body is about it.

I only work 10-12 days a month, I can do a shift trade and be off for 5-7 days at a time :yeshrug:

I don’t drink alcohol or coffee,No kids, a girlfriend who’s equally busy finishing up undergrad.

trust me I do a lot of sleeping on my off days

Worked the night shift for 8 years, 12 hour shifts, 3 to 7 days in a row depending if I wanted overtime. I still get brain fog at times, bad insomnia, and an ice (water)addiction. Coffee/ caffeine makes me sleepy, hospital ice :blessed:kept me up. I stopped the nightshift when I fell asleep at the light going home, I thank God I put the breaks on park.

Only bonus is usually the workload is lighter and no customers. But as others have said, and it's not an exaggeration, it takes years from your life.

It appears humans are made to be diurnal. We are very adaptable but it's hard fighting thousands of years of evolution.

You will develop sleep disorders and weaken your immune system.

I worked nightshift for 3 years.

I loved that night shift, worked it for 9 years. I only left it because of my wife. I was in the best shape of my life. Gym was empty when I hit it. Go to the park to jog, and it’s nothing but wandering housewives trying to keep that ass in shape. It was lovely.

I don’t see how married folks do it though.
