Clearly yes, but greatest doesn't always mean best.

I don't care what you say, you cannot deny Dre's Greatness

Was going to say something very similar.

I think Dre is the greatest (longevity, impact, success, discography etc) but I don't believe he's the most talented.

best drum patterns? Timbo, possibly Organize Noise. But i would give it to timbo.

But no ones drums SOUNDS better than dre's. Which is why i can't say Best drums. cause what does that mean? best sounding/best pattern? i would rather separate the two and give both producers their due props

:what: based on what? Do you have examples?

WAIT A SECOND... anyone saying DRE is NOT the GREATEST PRODUCER of all TIME(in HIPHOP) is lying to themselves.

The prime word is PRODUCER. NOT BEAT MAKER. NOT DRUM PROGRAMMER, NOT MELODY GUY/KEYS GUY. NOT SAMPLE FLIPPER, RECORD FINDER. BUT PRODUCER is the word.

There is a HUUUUGE difference between making a beat and producing a song to producing a record.

There's some young dudes around the corner from where you live right now that are better beat makers than dre. SO. Can they make GREAT SONGS/GREAT ALBUMS?

This is what sets apart us beat makers, from us producers.

Producing is not about how much you do on your own as opposed to your direction. You are directing everyone. you're directing the guy on bass, the guy on keys, the guy that found the record, the guy thats killing the drums( or drum machine). you're directing the artist(snoop... say it like this... S N Doubl OO P...OOO WEEE" Say that OO WEE part at the end.

You have to look at producing great songs/albums the same way you look at directing great movies. it's literally the same thing.

you guys get caught up in who's doing what. that is irrelevant. now if you found out the entire vision of all these songs/albums were someone elses and dre just put his name on it like a sticker. that would be different.

now if you're just a beat maker. you better not have 50 people in the kitching with you. 3 max. one on finding samples/dj, one on drums, one on melodies. and you better be the drums guy or the melody guy. otherwise i can't call you a beat maker. you have a band.

LOL> you're joking right?

It's well known by all producers that Dre's drums SOUND the best(The thickest/punchest and heavy). Its a dream to have those kind of drums in a hiphop song. people have been trying to duplicate it for decades and have never been able to pull it off.

now i didnt say patterns. i said The sound of the drum. we know dre's patterns are super simple.

see... when I hear the words "well known" it means "circulated myth with no receipts".

I've been listening to hip hop damn near 20 years, and I've never heard the "Dre has the best drums" story until this morning. I've certainly heard about Dre's mixing, especially for those into clean-sounding music, but I've never heard the "he got the best drums in the game" story.

If anything, I would expect that more from a Timbaland. and again, I know you're not talking drum patterns. But even just the sound of the drums alone. In that department, it's Premo and Timbaland all day.

I would also add DJ Hi-Tek as well. His drums & basslines are solid. And he uses real drum sounds in most of his beats.

if you have been listening to hiphop for 20 years. then your lying. its a known fact of hiphop that dre's drums are by far the cleanest, thickest, punchyest sounding drums in hiphop. people have been trying to duplicate them for decades. just because you like someone elses drums doesnt mean you have to lie about it. i like timbo too. But no one beats dre's drums in Sound QUALITY.

patterns, it aint him at all. cause we know he has very simple drum patterns. people always get that confused. there's a difference between patterns and the quality of your drums.

look. if dre is the guy so well known for having the best EAR(mixing wise) in hiphop. and he's a west coast producer(we like our drums thick and knocking). odds are he would have the best drum SOUND. so any way you like to slice it. Dre would be that guy.

No...he's incredible...but too many eras that moved the culture forward didn't include him. It's shared honestly and he is amongst the best...but not solely him. Just too many great waves and regions to single him out solely...cuz basically everything J dilla touched had me:ohlawd: during his era just as much as dre during his moments, for example:manny:
