It took Pau Gasol to win 2 titles in the last 13 years. One against a (relatively weak) Magic team. The other in 7 games against an aging Celtics team.

I don't understand the logic of some stans here.

Are you fans of Kobe and pushing for him to personally enrich himself? Or are you fans of the Lakers who want to see your team win?

Winning makes money so I don't see how anyone could argue against Shaq. And they arguably would have been much more competitive in this mid 2000 years.

The last 3 years of Lakers teams have been the 3 worst Laker teams of all time. Consider how bad that is. So when I ask "was it worth it?", are Laker fans happy that Kobe is super rich and the Buss family is super rich and the franchise is in shambles from a competitive point of view?

Is that worth one 60 point game that you've all been in your feelings over in the last week?

And two, the NBA and its corporate sponsors were growing increasingly uncomfortable with anything resembling the inner city, including players. They cringed at Allen Iverson's cornrows and rap sheet. By 2005, the league would enact a dress code that banned clothes associated with hip-hop culture.

So no, it was not a good look for the league's youngest superstar, the heir apparent to Michael Jordan as a player and as a corporate shill, to be showing up in a Philadelphia courthouse to vouch for his high school rapper friend who'd been accused of armed robbery.

Frankly I don't think it the choice HAD to be made at the time. They could have coexisted. But the lakers likely would have not fallen off like they did with Shaq.

For all Kobe stans like to take sides, they conveniently forget that Kobe wanted to jump ship many times ten years ago. Even he surely had doubts/regrets about how that breakup turned out.

:coffee:
Why do you nikkas seem to forget with it being a business move for Dr. Buss, it was a thing where you can't allow a player to be running down the court during preseason games yelling "fukkin pay me" while you sit court side? No owner is going to put up with that BS unless you're Dan Gilbert
