It took Pau Gasol to win 2 titles in the last 13 years. One against a (relatively weak) Magic team. The other in 7 games against an aging Celtics team.

I don't understand the logic of some stans here.

Are you fans of Kobe and pushing for him to personally enrich himself? Or are you fans of the Lakers who want to see your team win?

Winning makes money so I don't see how anyone could argue against Shaq. And they arguably would have been much more competitive in this mid 2000 years.

The last 3 years of Lakers teams have been the 3 worst Laker teams of all time. Consider how bad that is. So when I ask "was it worth it?", are Laker fans happy that Kobe is super rich and the Buss family is super rich and the franchise is in shambles from a competitive point of view?

Is that worth one 60 point game that you've all been in your feelings over in the last week?

:ld:
And how would Dr. Buss choosing Shaq over Kobe kept us from having three losing seasons like the ones we just had? Care to explain? :ld:

Because he was getting older and Kobe was entering his prime. How hard is it to understand? You're acting like the Lakers had the choice between a prime Shaq in his mid twenties and a prime Kobe in his mid twenties that wasn't the scenario. And Kobe also got the Lakers two more championships while Shaq only got one more on his own. /theendofthistopicrightthere.
I agree.
It wasn't a "one or the other" choice.

They could have coexisted.
They didn't.
And in my view they should have stayed together and flowed through Shaq for as long as he was able. And he was clearly still very able at that particular time.

Out here in my damn drawls
In his book "The Last Season," Phil Jackson wrote of that game against Orlando, "The first game home after a road trip is always an adjustment, with players torn between their personal and professional responsibilities. They must meet the needs of a wife or a child, who have been waiting anxiously for their return."

Read that again.

Now think of what Kobe's family was doing. His wife wasn't waiting anxiously for his return. She was kicking him out and throwing his stuff in the street.

McGrady had been close to Kobe since they first came into the league. He'd even lived with Kobe and his parents for a week before his rookie season.

Did he notice anything different about Kobe that night?

"He wasn't as aggressive in the first half," McGrady says. "That I remember."

I tell him the story of what really happened before the game. McGrady is stunned.

"It was that game?" McGrady says. "Oh, man.

"Listen, I knew this cat was insane. He fukking went through that trial and was coming back and forth and was still fukking going nuts. That right there, I knew he was obsessed with basketball, like this was his fukking life."

Choosing Shaq :snoop:

Shaq went to Miami and played with D-Wade. Shaq had ridiculous numbers and D-Wade got injured and went 7 with Detroit. Next year Wade had the refs in his pocket, Alonzo was backing Shaq up, they brought in The Glove and won a chip.

IF Shaq stayed with LA who was gonna help him win a ring?

Hopefuls (if they traded Bean):
T-Mac
Luol Deng
Brandon Roy
Kobe Bryant Says He'd Like to be Traded

And those aren't even realistic, Kobe only wanted to be traded to CHI or the Clippers.

LA would've been a middling Western conference team and the Spurs would've won another ring.

Kobe honestly might've gotten another ring just because of how competitive he is and him pushing management to make his team better. And that would be the end of it.

In reality, Kobe went to 3 more straight finals after Shaq was gone. Plus he had the scoring god seasons in between.

It may not have been popular at the time because Kobe sounded like a bytch ratting Shaq out, but it was the right move. And just like Vince McMahon says "what's best for business"

Norfeast groovin…
It's a big price to pay to be a legend. Honestly though, I ain't seen someone with a work ethic this inspirational since Pac. I especially admire Kobe because he seems like a self taught type and I've always advocated for that.

Hell, even how he chooses to learn shyt the harder way sounds like me too. I can only imagine how talented he'll become with all this free time. Kobe ain't nothin but added motivation for me now. Ima try to beat him in languages spoken...:lupe:
