The difference is that the people participating in the CC roast don't work together like that and they're given the okay to be talked about.

Both of these are the truth. Plus the fact roasts are for one singular person...that's actually there and gets to respond to all the material in the end. This seems like it was a half-assed idea someone had after watching the Roast of Tom Brady (loved the Comedy Central Roasts, but Netflix made a huge mistake by broadcasting this live instead of taping it and editing it to remove dead air time).
