Maybe because he can refine his game to the point that instead of getting one million dollar contract (and then be out of the league in 3 years), he can get several of them. Doesn't always work out that way, but I can never fault someone that thinks longevity instead of right now.
College Basketball is not going to refine his game. The level of competition is a joke. He is better getting that money and developing as he goes. Either way if he puts in the work he will be in the NBA for a long time. He could refine his game all he wants in college and still get crushed in the NBA and put in the bushes.
