Nas without Jay z mentioning him career dies in the 90s

god son sold like shyt

from that point forward nobody cared about Nas unless it was Jay z related
And this pertains to Esco doing ya man like Hitman did Martin in that episode how so? What you talking about embodies Jayz in that battle…and why he got cooked like that. You focusing on the wrong things champion, the focus shoulda been winning the battle…not cute little girl “without me you’d be nothing!!! You hear meeee!? Nothiiing!!”…I’m more successful!!” shhit. Attack 100%…Damage 0%

i won’t rest til u on knee

nobody cares about Nas unless jay z is attached

Nas last two big first weeks are jay z related. Without Jay z he been mid tier for 20+ years.

y’all fans are mostly to blame because y’all stuck in 2001

Two clowns in this thread and Pop exposing their make up.

:russ:

On topic. Nas second run of Stillmatic, Distant Relatives l, Lost Tapes and Life is Good strong. Third run with KD and Magic series shows that over a 30 yr span, by and large he's released some great music.

Jay has released bangers too but just hasn't really released anything lately. He did show he still has it on the Jay Elec album. His business accumen as well as the list of ppl he's put on and grew is really impressive.

I guess a lot of people forget about this which was the precursor to Ether

oh no. It was a chess move on Jay part. Jay said he "set the trap to watch dude react", but it backfired. Jay just said one line "ask Nas he don't want it with Hov" at summer jam. Nas releases the 12" Paid in full diss. THEN jay does the Nas verse of Takeover after. a few months later, Nas releases "ether" so both were playing Chess. Jay knew nas would react and Nas knew Jay would react to the stillmatic freestyle. 2 legendary great rappers playing chess delivering dope diss tracks. Jay just made the mistake by putting his Queen in the middle of the board too early by releasing 'superugly' too fast after Ether. He got too emotional. Had he waited and released "BP2" as the follow up months later, it would have been a better move, because BP2 was a dope track, but superugly killed his momentum

I don’t for a second believe Jay rejuvenated Nas’s career lol. Nas just had 2 albums go platinum in the same yr.

We never would of gotten ether without Jay but we 100% would of gotten stillmatic. Double platinum.

Then 2 albums following stillmatic god son and streets disciple going platinum as well and 2 more following that HHID and untitled debuting 1 and going on to sell 800*k each.

Jay will always be number 2 to Nas all time. And that’s okay, nothing wrong with that. Both icon legends in the rap game.

Iam and Nastradamus were released 2 years prior to Stillmatic/BP. Even though both Iam and Nastradamus went platinum, people didn't like Nastradamus at all at the time. A few songs were dope, but as an album, it was the consensus of it being his worst album back then (even worse than The Firm). In 2000 he released Qb's finest and it wasn't that good as well. Nas definitely was on the downside of his career in 2001 before Jay saved it by dissing him.

Jay Z messed up by going at Nas when his career was in the dirt. That gave Nas life. After Nastradamus, Nas was in a bad place. A lot of people wanted to hear his responses on Stillmatic(a dope album btw). and Jay woke up a beast. He should have just let Nas die off, but he gave that man life. The crazy thing is that I think BP is better than Stillmatic overall, but Jay made the mistake of fuking with a dude that had nothing to lose.
Nas was never going to die off. He is too great a talent

He had a slip in the late 90’s he was gonna rally in the early 2000’s regardless if he beefed with Jay or not

haha. we don't know that. Kane had way more mainstream appeal than Nas from 89-91(though sales don't show you this), but Taste of Chocolate started his downfall and Prince of Darkness put the nail in the coffin. In that time frame, Kane was on Soul Train multiple times, did a song with Prince that got shelved(we just learned this in an interview recently), did a movie with Quincy JOnes, SNL appearance, song with Patti labelle, and won a grammy. When he tried to return to his roots on Looks like a Job for and Daddy's Home(2 dope albums) it was too late. Hip hop is an unforgiving genre. You just didn't get 2 albums to fix your mistake back in the day. It moved FAST. Eras were basically 2 years. Ice Cube's Predator dropped in 92 and Ready to die dropped in 94. That's only 2 years apart, but different eras. 95 wutang had the industry on lock, by 97 everyone was wearing Vercase and rhyming over 80s pop hits. Nas after Nastradamus and Qb's finest sadly was on his way out.

Yup. What happens if Jay doesn't diss him is we don't get Ether but we do get Doo Rags and Purple on Stillmatic
