Neither of your examples are the same as what I'm talking about.

Hip-hop and by extension sampling was born out of not having access to actual musical instruments. So people used records, breaks, etc.

There isn't an analogue for Pepsi or bootlegging clothing.

I'm just saying it's hilarious to see "hip-hop heads" side with the people suing. When this mind state, legally correct or not, would've killed hip-hop directly after it's inception.

Fred.

Point is you can't just profit off someone's intellectual property without their permission.

Doesn't matter how hip hop was started. All that died when Biz got sued. These aren't broke kids having fun, making music. If you have a large profile clear your samples.

There's resources out there to acquire licences for samples.

Honestly I’ve been wondering how all these underground acts clear all of these damn samples? The process can be long and expensive for top selling acts but these cats be pushing samples projects out like it’s nothing
They don’t. People would be absolutely shocked. 99% of underground artists these days don’t clear a single thing on any of their projects. Clearing samples is largely a thing of the past unless you’re on a major label, and majors try to keep it to a minimum

Rap fans siding with people suing artists for sampling on a hip-hop site.

WATTBA. :wow:

I'm semi-trolling but the fact of the matter is the best response isn't always "let me sue".

Ghostface was running around calling himself Ironman for years and Marvel gave him a role in the RDJ movie. :dead:

Bob James is one of the most sampled artist in hip-hop history and he's reached out to various artists to work with them. Not just take them to court.

Same with George Clinton. His career was given a 2nd wind due to embracing artists sampling him.

These guys are 100x more integral to hip-hop than a fukking WWE announcer.

Fred.
Right on. There's a way to do this without acting like Metallica during the Napster era :manny:

It's not his voice. It's WWE property like everything else they've sampled. They'll probably work out a settlement if they even think it's worth pursuing. This is someone that has a relationship with a number of their stars and is seemingly well liked across the industry.

EDIT: He deleted the Instagram post. Someone got in his ear.

That's nice but my point stands

fukk your point.

Safe? What if the song or artist blows up? Juice world, lord Tariq and Peter guns, Kendrick and countless others have dealt with not clearing songs and the consequences of it

all of them were signed by major labels the label dropped the ball. juice world producer sampled sting and tariq and peter producer sampled steely dan too popular of an artist to pull that with. kendrick popularity got him.

juice world was trying to blow up with that song. thats a huge difference. not like westside gunn having daringer sample an obscure psych rock song like they did on the cow. or black cream by harold wheeler on blakk tape. its not gone get back to the publishers or the artists thats why its safe. and its also why real sample based producers dont sample famous songs.

i sampled an art rock song from 1989 on the first half of this its not on youtube & i dont think its even shazamable. i could get caught for the second beat tho. but this shyt never blowing up and its not making money so the only thing they can do is do a copyright claim and take it down. suing me would be a L for them cus the song free theres no publishing to collect lawyer fees not worth it. thats why its safe

It obviously didn't die when Biz got sued if this is still happening in 2021.

I'm saying the sole reason you have the luxury of taking this stance....is rap fans didn't take this stance back in the day. If we did, this shyt would've never gotten off the ground.

Couple that with the disdain some artists have for rap as an art form....which is the ulterior motive in some of these "well, I just don't want my work sampled" situations....not to mention racism....there is a hell of a lot more at play here, than the surface level arguments being thrown around.

Your response is especially odd, considering you have an MF DOOM avatar.

WSG is exactly that. Whatever project(s) this goof is complaining about, even if he's legally in the right, how much money do you think has been generated for him to sue for?:mjlol:

Besides streams, how do you even count? Those vinyl drops and shyt, he can probably lie and say sold 52:mjlol: Who's going to spend thousands to find out?

Yes, but it has gotten to a point that people have taken notice and are aware of what he is doing. It doesn’t matter if he’s earned $1 or $1,000,000 he can’t use someone’s intellectual property without permission.

Now he’s going to learn.

Not sure how Game thought he could get away with calling himself “The Game” and not face any consequences. What a clown move.
i never understood that either...he was The Game on his first tape or two...then he was just GAME for awhile...but if you look he's been The Game for like a decade again lol.
