X-Men: Dark Phoenix Official Thread (2018)

So I'm going to play devil's advocate for a second...
Let's say that they actually learn their lesson from Apocalypse and get it together. What could happen in this movie that could redeem the series?

For the roster, I would include mostly the characters from the last one: Cyclops, Jean, Nightcrawler, Beast, and Storm, alongside a recast Wolverine*. Maybe include 1 or 2 more characters from Rogue, Archangel, Colossus, Iceman, Psylocke, or Gambit. Quicksilver has left the group, choosing to seek out and reconcile with his father, Magneto.**
Mystique returns from the last movie, but only to immediately betray the team within the first 20 minutes (or by the end of the first act at the latest, because Mystique is a VILLAIN). They could explain that she was just getting in good with the X-men to gather information and power for her real boss, Mr. Sinister.

Establish the team and all the characters in the beginning, and show them in the Danger Room as the first big action sequence. Afterwards, have Mystique betray the group sell them all out to the Hellfire Club (led my Mister Sinister, alongside a cloned/resurrected Sebastian Shaw and Emma Frost) in exchange for power. The bad guys (Mystique included, because Mystique is a VILLAIN) could take the X-men prisoner and try to tap Jean's powers and use them to attain more power/influence but get the tables turned on them thanks to the X-men like in the comics. After they beat the Hellfire Club and escape, Jean flies out on her outer space rampage, comes back, is subdued by Prof. X, but still put on trial by Lilandra and the Shi'ar Empire for destroying a planet. The story ends with a big, climactic final showdown with the X-men fighting against the imperial guard on the moon like in the original story in the comics.( If they want to keep Sophie Turner for more movies, they can follow the 90's cartoon ending where Jean lives.)***

* I don't care if it's too soon after Hugh Jackman's departure, it's not the Dark Phoenix Saga without the iconic scene of Wolverine slicing and dicing the Hellfire Club goons in the sewers.

** Quicksilver is a cool dude, but he's way too overpowered to be a regular member of the main squad IMO

On an unrelated note, I finished reading the Australian Outback era. The Brood and Genosha stories were pretty cool. I couldn't get into Inferno, but I'm willing to give it a second chance. I might have to read it in color instead of black and white. The way Storm is wasted in these movies is criminal.

I'm in the minority but I don't want to see the X-Men interacting with aliens. Keep the stories grounded on Earth. They still have so many untapped earth based stories and villains to tap into.

They messed up this book to make it the great white hope a long time ago after lee and Claremont left and is not worth shyt after xmen 9&10.

Not to mention, storm being under utilized is just flat out fukk'n racist.
In a series about ending anything related to that type of shyt in any form or fashion.

Simon Kinberg Addresses X-MEN: SUPERNOVA Directing Rumors, Recasting Wolverine, And An X-23 Movie

Simon Kinberg talks here about rumours he'll take the helm of the next X-Men movie, why Fox might end up leaving Wolverine on the shelf after Logan, and the future of the newly introduced X-23.

The future of the X-Men franchise is unclear, but it was recently reported that Simon Kinberg will take the helm of the next instalment of the franchise - rumoured to be titled X-Men: Supernova - as Bryan Singer turns his attentions elsewhere. When JoBlo.com caught up with the writer and producer recently, they were quick to ask about those reports of him taking over.

He also addressed reports that the movie will reboot X-Men: The Last Stand's take on the Dark Phoenix Saga, and while he would neither confirm nor deny that, it sounds like it's definitely on his mind.

"I can tell you that the stories of me directing it are premature, but I can also tell you that we are in prep on what the next X-Men movie will be. We can't confirm what the next movie will be, but I can talk a little about, frankly, what I would do differently if I were to make X-Men: The Last Stand again, which had the Dark Phoenix storyline. I think the big mistake we made with that movie - and if anybody is to blame for it it's the writer, and I was one of them - it's that we made the Dark Phoenix the subplot of that film, instead of making it the main plot. The Dark Phoenix story is the biggest, and in many ways the most epic, saga of the X-Men comics, so you can't make that the B-plot of the movie. If we were lucky enough to have the opportunity to re-tell that story - and certainly, what we did with the end of Days of Future Past gave us the opportunity to re-tell it - I think we all would want to give it the justice and the space to breath that it deserves."

Talk then turned to what's next for certain characters following the release of Logan, and asked about Wolverine's future, Kinberg explained that he's going to be left on the shelf for a while before a new version is inevitably introduced somewhere down the line (hopefully in a yellow and blue costume).

"We haven't started talking about that," he explained. "The truth is, we really approached this as, this is really the end of Hugh Jackman playing Wolverine and it very well be the end of Wolverine in the movies. Beyond that, we'll figure out if there is some other version of him. We haven't gone down that road. We really approached this as if it were the end."

That's pretty vague, but pretty much what we expected. However, one character you have to believe will make a reappearance somewhere down the line is X-23. Interestingly, it almost sounds like the plan is to bring back Dafne Keen rather than casting an older actress to take over. "We have been talking a little bit about that and the possibility certainly exists," added producer Hutch Parker. "She's a remarkable actress, I think she did an amazing job, and a lot of the credit for that goes to Jim [Mangold]. It's certainly a rich opportunity, we haven't gotten specific in any way, but I'd love to see more with that character."

Three X-MEN Films Set For Next Year As NEW MUTANTS, DEADPOOL 2, & DARK PHOENIX Get Release Dates

Shortly after setting release dates for their four Avatar sequels, 20th Century Fox has officially announced the release dates for New Mutants, Deadpool 2 & X-Men: Dark Phoenix!

2018 is really shaping up to be the year of Marvel as in addition to three films from Marvel Studios and two from Sony Pictures, it sounds like we'll also be getting three very different kinds of X-Men films from 20th Century Fox!

In a surprise announcement just moments ago, the studio confirmed release dates for New Mutants, which will bow on April 13, 2018, followed by Deadpool 2 on June 1, 2018, and finally, ending the year with, the now-official X-Men: Dark Phoenix on November 2, 2018.

The trio of films now joins a calendar that already featured Black Panther on February 16, 2018, Avengers: Infinity War on May 4, 2018, Ant-Man and the Wasp on July 6, 2018, Sony Pictures' Venom on October 5, 2018, and Sony Animation's Miles Morales Spider-Man movie on December 21, 2018, meaning we could quite possibly get to see a new Marvel movie in eight out of twelve months next year.

There's also a decent chance of getting nine superhero movies total as Warner Bros.' has announced James Wan's Aquaman for December 21, 2018.

Looking ahead to the competition, Josh Boone's New Mutants, which is set to begin production next month, will open against an Untitled Universal Classic Monsters Movie and will also likely face some heat from Walt Disney Pictures' A Wrinkle in Time, which opens the week prior and Warner Bros.' Dwayne Johnson-led Rampage, which debuts the following weekend.

David Leitch's Deadpool sequel, which will see the return of Golden Globe-nominee Ryan Reynolds as the Merc with a Mouth while adding Academy Award-nominee Josh Brolin as Cable and Zazie Beetz as Domino, won't see any competition in its first frame, which should lead to a massive opening, but might ultimately see diminished returns at the box office due to Han Solo's second weekend and with Paramount's Bumblebee spin-off (June 8), Walt Disney's The Incredibles 2 (June 15), and Universal's Jurassic World 2 (June 22) opening in subsequent weekends.

As for the now-confirmed X-Men: Dark Phoenix, which has been rumored to begin production this summer, it occupies a date that Fox staked claim to a few months back, but will still face heavy opposition from Walt Disney's live-action Mulan and an Untitled Paramount Pictures event film, the latter of which may end up moving. Universal's animated How the Grinch Stole Christmas (November 9) and Warner Bros.' Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them 2 (November 16) are slated to arrive later that month as well.
