GDDR5 has very high data transfer but as is, its not the most stable ram and its also expensive. To answer your question though, the architecture of the ps4 is Designed to use GDDR5 effectively whereas your average pc is NOT! YOu forget, this is a GAMING console not a pc.
Just take a seat with the rest of us and watch xbox go down in Flames!

Pull up a chair!Im going to make this as simple as I can. gddr5 is a graphics memory which is based on DDR3. But it trades latency for higher bandwidth which is great for graphics duty but sucks for everything else due to its high latency. On the other hand DDR3 and soon DDR4 is a better all around ram because its has fairly low latency. Actually DDR4 has bandwidth closer to gdd5 but keeps its low latency.
Now concerning the PS4 its great that it has a large pool of gddr5 which is great for graphics but it will hurt it in other areas such logic, A.I. functions, pagefile etc. Actually the the 8 GB of gddr5 is overkill. The system will never use all the ram on games.
Now I don't know enough about the Next Xbox to break it down fully but in all intents and purposes it will be fairly equal to the PS4. So just get the system that has the best games for you!

Nope the kinect and the eye toy are totaly differnt pieces of technology with differnt goals. The new ps eye that's being packaged with every ps4 is a blatant attempt by Sony to replicate the success of the kinect.
The PSkinect and social features are Sony's only plans for the ps4. The Xbox will have all of that, plus things like illumiroom, Microsoft glass, and countless other entertainment features.

That's fine and all, but it's still one more hoop to jump through to try and catch up; you're better off using faster RAM instead of hot potato with the middle man ESRAM with only 32MB. You're not gonna exactly fit a megatexture in there.
You're really overlooking the size of the RAM. Everything's moving to what, 1080p standard now? Textures don't come cheap in terms of size even with TC.

Y'all so worried about extra features that you know is going to be there meanwhile neglecting the importance of actual commendable titles. Sony could literally make a sequel to every PS3/PS2 exclusive franchise and we'd be
for days since it's a vast library. Myriad franchises were made since Sony's inception and M$ is on their third console and it's still Halo, Gears(which is dying) and a copycat of the premier racing game. Microsoft just doesn't make compelling games. That's why I don't care about Xbox like that. They hardly make games that make people go . It's always predictable titles from them. Sony just come out the gate with titles that amaze us all the time. Uncharted, God of War, Heavy Rain, Last of US etc. No one seen those juggernauts coming. Halo 4 you smelled from a mile away and it launched DOA.

I'll take my superior cross platform titles (Devs are always going to go XBOX first because it's easier to port to Windows for PC gaming).

Funny how that's not what devs have been saying lately. PS4 is basically a closed pc friendly box. There is no platform headaches this time around. Keep living in 2007 breh.
PS4 is going to have Uncharted, a new final fantasy exclusive, Killzone, Infamous and much more titles from respected devs such as Quantic dreams(Heavy Rain), Sony Santa Monica(God of War) etc. It's over. Microsoft hands has been dealt for them and they've got no deck to draw from. Back to square one.
