I remember reading a TIME magazine article in 2001 where they made a mention that Kokane was in the studio with Dr. Dre and Dre told the reporter "He must not want to get his music played on anyone's station by naming himself Kokane." I think the TIME article actually spelled it as Cocaine.

EDIT - Here it is.

dap + rep. i remember reading that article back in high school :flabbynsick:. The way they spelled it as Cocaine struck me as hilarious and i still think about that randomly.

Did you not hear Missionary? Dre ain’t got noooo classic beats in his vaults (that ain’t been hemmed up by sample clearance issues). That myth squashed. He’s not been releasing classic stuff coz he ain’t got it no more…and the production staff he hires now are ass.

The Big Bang was the end of Dre’s Day.
Great beat. If there were more like this Dre wouldve been good but he lost his ear

True. Just heard this the other day for the first time. Still could be a sample issue but i take your point.

This also sounded pretty great to be fair…

TIME really printed “Cocaine” like his next single was gonna come with a free key bump and a federal indictment. :mjlol:Scare the suburban parents, brehs.

Kendrick only let him mix on 1 album and back in 2013, I remember an artist of him saying he wanted to prove he could do it without Dre's contribution.
Dre even said few years ago he can't take credit for Kendrick's success, he's done everything himself.

He said it himself on section 80 he didn't want a hand out from dre

Everyone who's worked with Dre has always claimed otherwise.

Where Dre has consistently gone wrong, is signing artists who simply don't have that IT factor....or who pissed away any opportunity they had to make something of the Dre association.

He's also just so far detached that trying to create something new with like 40 years of things you just can't do anymore has to be a real challenge.

So why would Snoop not get those beats for Missionary? Dre still produces Eminem albums. Why haven’t we heard any of those killer beats so far? That strikes me as odd.

The likely explanation is that people around Dre will say that shyt to support ‘the brand’.…It’s pure P.R.

The D.O.C said Missionary sounded like “the Death Row era but updated for the modern day”. They ain’t gonna tell the truth…that Dr Dre stuff is straight booty juice now… for fear of being seen as damaging the image and getting frozen out of the circle.

makes sense :ohhh:

this was Eve's debut

we dont credit Dre enough for signing Eve first. Too bad they could never find chemistry. She was shelved, signed back to Dre and got shelved again.

Everybody else Dre had a hand in producing or developing as an artist, to my knowledge there are no Dre beats on that album and Dre hasnt really helmed a project outside Marshall's since Bustas Big Bang and of course last years Snoop umm failed mission.

But yeah, personally dont consider K. a Dre artist other than a cosign or logo on back of the records...
It's common knowledge that Kendrick is a Cole artist

He put that "Obie Trice, real name no gimmicks" sample in front of Eminem's single too :ohhh:

The Firm had Firm Biz as their first single. It wasn't produced by Dre but obviously he was involved in pushing the album.

Now we know where Game gets his name calling fetish from. He was trying to impress Dre. :dead:
