I was there. Never did fast food or retail but I know the grind. Dishwasher and warehouse and know I am not making any money. Busboy. Hell, I was making $8/hr with a college degree.

It’s when I see a breh or brehette obviously in their 30s especially mid and late 30s or older working those jobs, I just sigh.

I came up from adversity and making the better decisions because life is a marathon. I feel they can do it too.

I said in another thread that seeing people work dead end jobs motivated me not to end up like that.

I struggled like hell after leaving college. Nearly got evicted a few times, barely had enough to eat, just about enough to cover the rent. But I’m glad I went through that. It made me appreciate the value and not just the cost of money.

Most people I grew up with are doing well. But let me tell you, if I had a baby mama at any point during that period, I probably would’ve commit that. I don’t know how some of you do it dealing with that drama. I consider myself a strong person but dealing with that would’ve pushed me over the edge.

I feel really bad for folk in a lot of joints.

I had to work a ton of low wage jobs in high school and paying my own way through college, some of them really really bad, but I never identified like that because I always knew I was on a road out once I got my education. Also I was single so I didn't have worries like that. I can't imagine what it like for folk who have a family and don't have that road out and know that that's gonna be their life for decades.

I worked a shytty job for around 8 years (environment was relaxed though) and got a shyt, incompetent, mid-life crisis and chip on his shoulder having new manager the last 6 months. I knew what was going to happen the first week but was persuaded by the other manager to stay and he'll sort it. 6 months later the dude said to me I'd have to sit and do some menial fukkboi shyt the next day. I said okay :stopitslime:, packed my shyt in secret and just never turned up again :mjlol:

I pray to God that I never have to work a 9-5 again.

When you end up with the wrong management or you have to carry shyt on your back with no reward, it's just tiring. Go home feeling like a slave. Wake up dreading your day like a slave.

Mane I wanna leave the 9-5 so bad. I'm tired of it, my job is cool and all but I still gotta get up everyday.

My next job I'm going to ask during interview if working 4 10s is possible.

The thing is, everyone in here is talking like that’s not going to be a good portion of this board 10 years from now. They’re about to “adjust” the economy again, and this time they’re coming for the tech jobs.

Lotta people gonna be looking for second jobs, and alotta people gonna lose their high paying white collar jobs and gonna have to go work in places like wal-mart.

Hell look at these fast food places. More and more it’s grown folk behind those counters.

I feel sorry for any adult with out a “career” period
Put career in quotes cause even those can go away due to automation, outsourcing, or age discrimination but at least you have some kinda expertise I guess
But yea I recently observed a 35 yr old who been working odd jobs in the $10-15 range the last decade
Seeing them scramble for ANY job at that stage of life was eye opening. I’m so used to ppl that age being on LinkedIn or at least doing targeted search for a specific job type
The person has no skills tho, they literally were just looking for a paycheck basically
The older you get the harder it is if you don’t have some kind of specialized skill set to sell yourself with

Brooklyn keeps on taking it.
I know that feeling and it's sad.

Last year i was at chick fil a drive through. And doing busy times they have the employees outside in the heat taking orders.

Pulled up and it was a guy i remembered from high school. He said hey man you look familiar, where you from???

I had to pretend like i didn't know him too awkward

im confused by this. Why was it awkward?

nikka you going broke won’t affect me in the least. My little brother works in that field and I guarantee he’s making more than most of y’all and I tell him the same thing and to get prepared which is why we started a company some years back.

So go stick your head in the sand elsewhere bytch and never respond to me again. I ain’t in here giving my opinions, I’m telling you what everyone who’s been paying attention has known is coming. You think your “6 certs” are gonna protect you from a global economic downturn?

Or maybe you think because you have some certifications the world is supposed to revolve around your hopes and wishes and economic trends are supposed to bow to that lol

What should humble about 90% of us on this board, is the fact we grew up or still live in the hood and u see the people u went to high school with or hung out with and they out on the block not doing anything but smoking, drinking, talking about the high school days or back in the day shyt bummin off the same chicks who once was popular in school or clubs but now just baby mamas who still talking about finding a baller for their kids

im confused by this. Why was it awkward?

knowing that we both got the same high school education, both graduated went off to college and how we ended up in two different states of life where he is outside in the hot sun taking orders.

didn't really feel like getting into the conversations you have with someone you haven't seen since high school. "hey how you been?" "how's life treating you?" "what do you do for work now?"

He didn't remember my name or anything, just knew I looked familiar so it was easier to just get my chicken sandwich and bounce :yeshrug:
