The lion share of the pollutants have been created during the production.

You and I using natural gas to keep the house warm ain't the issue :mjlol:

We should not be held subject to a carbon tax or any policy of the sort.

That’s all fine and dandy, but the way you’re approaching the argument is as though you don’t enjoy from the spoils of this production.

imagine being this delusional

- We should take a break from growth for 50 years and global society needs to come to a abrupt halt.
which you think would lead to world changing energy technology breakthroughs? How sway???
Cap for an iron fist and the end of society. :hhh:

Energy technology should not be stifled by Oil Interest, however you're advocating for a collapse of the current way of life.

I should be taxed for heating my house in the most affordable way? because of "climate change" ?? nah man
It ain’t the most affordable if you’re getting taxed for it :umad:

Get a solar panel, fuccboi :umad:

Fuel prices in western europe are pretty ridiculous compared to the states, at the moment you're talking $3/gallon in the US compared to $6.50/gallon in France/UK

They would be better off blockading all the fuel station forecourts rather than mass protests like this

Its going to take an iron fist to ween us off the tit of oil. Most people aren't capable of looking at the larger picture and are primarily influenced by short term economic gain and comfort. This is part of the reason tackling climate change will be so hard. Raising taxes on fossil fuels is lightweight compared to what really needs to be done. At this point global society essentially needs to come to an abrupt halt if we are to save human civilization.
Preventing catastrophe is going to take a radical reformation on how we live our lives as human beings on this planet.
I wish it was as easy as humanity taking a break from growth for about 50 years or so to allow the ecosystem to recover on its own. And during that time we are developing a sustainable source of energy. Unfortunately its vastly for more complex than this.

Lol

People want fee shyt, socialism is doomed to fail and this shows it!!!

If you think the population at large should bear the tax burden of an issue created by large multi national corporations damaging the environment I disagree. I never said climate change is a farce. The solutions that I have seen have been ridiculous

This is why the protest is happening in the first place. Also altough the protest was sparked by this particular measure, people need to understand that it's a long series of Macron policies that has created this. He cancelled the tax on the super-rich, lowered helps for accomodation, all the while various financial scandals have happened with no consequences. All with a clear disconnect with real-life issues (he said a couple months ago that to find a job "all you have to do is cross the street", for example) So what these people are protesting in general is this approach that the poor have to pay more while the rich pay (relatively) less. So, despite what some seem to think, they are not protesting against taxes per se, but against the fact that these taxes are always paid by the same. Just a couple days ago it was revealed that Starbucks doesn't pay any taxes in France for example. The government itself talks a lot aout the environment, but is still massively investing in fossile energy.

And pitting these protesters against environment is wrong : a lot of them live in small countryside towns/villages where they need a car to go to work, to university, hell just even to go do the groceries. Because train stations have been steadily closing for years now. So on one side you want to dissuade people from using their cars, but don't put up any alternative. How are they supposed to manage? Something isn't adding up.

I agree though, I don't think the best way to "fix" this issue is to just raise taxes. We should be pushing for other ways, such as eliminating plastics.

I was having a conversation at lunch with an dude at work (older than me) and some other worker was having pudding cup. And dude was saying how pudding used to come in a can rather than plastic container ( I vaguely remember this). But I also remember when Pop/soda came in bottles too, no plastics. No plastic water bottles either. Food came in mostly cans or paper containers. Stores had paper bags and plastic bags weren't to common.

There is so much WASTE out there right now, I'm not sure why there isn't more pressure put on to eliminate all that stuff. Rather than just imposing taxes on ppl, there should be more focus on eliminating waste, and limiting pollution.
