My folks came from Nigeria and St. Croix respectively.

I'll just put it like this, when you come from a disenfranchised or third world country and come to a country with significantly more opportunity, you're not going to take it for granted.

I think this is why those immigrants are willing to work hard when they come here and due. Compare these to Americans generations deep in the game. No offense, but they are spoiled and extremely entitled. They think that because their families are so deeply entrenched in the American fabric that things should just be handed to them (cause they usually are).

Meanwhile, immigrants from all over (Asia, Africa, India, Russia, Canada, Mexico, etc...) are taking those spots everyone else left behind.

Also, first generation kids of immigrant parents are directly aware of the struggles and hardships their families went through to provide a better life for them so they are less forgetful of it/distanced/removed from it.

My parents came over from the islands and worked hard to get to where they are in life, and they expected no less from me and my sisters, no if ands or but about it. Education was priority number 1 in my parents household, at the time I hated how strict they were when it came to school and fun, but I am grateful as hell now that I stuck to the script. I see a lot of where my old friends ended up in life now

Its harder nowadays too don't get it twisted...when we came over in 97 both of my parents got good engineering jobs within 3 months of getting here my mom's still in that position to this day. With the economy now who knows what would've happened . I'm sure my fam would've still been ok but not as easily as in the 90's
