You CAN'T Necessarily Blame Hip-Hop/Rap Culture For Gang Violence (Parents NEED To Be More Involved)

Yes, hip-hop has contributed to it, but you have to look at it this way where are the parents? They are the ones who should be raising the children. When I was a child, there was this thing called the village. You have to have a great support system and that's how I turned into the wonderful man I am today:jawalrus: I see nobody blames video games all that much for school shootings like they did back in the day. Don't put this on rappers, but the parental figures themselves. In the youths mind they are going like, if my parents don't care why should I. Other than that I agree with you @Emperor_ReinScarf. Just wanted to say this before I leave for work.

P.S. before the music is released they have a parental advisory tag on the front of it. What I'm basically saying is the parents need to take responsibility. It's NOT the Rapper's job to raise YOUR kids that's yours.

I was thinking about this the other day
is it better to put blinders on your children and shelter them from whats going on, or do you let them see everything and teach them what kind of life they should choose

it's crazy how we even thought curse words were really bad as kids cuz our parents made us think so, but people were actually walking around dropping them like its nothing :wow:

Rap and hip-hop is like the gravy to the mash potatoes.

What you allow to be heard has an effect especially if you lack a proper upbringing.

The culture affects the vocab people say, the clothes they wear, the things they buy, but it doesn't play a role in the way they act?

Some people can watch porn and it has no effect, others studies have shown brainonporn etc.

Just because you can listen to some filthy detrimental music and go on about your day doesn't mean that detrimental music markell in the projects is bumping owont have an effect on him and it does

True, but that's because of the lack of parental figures. Or they come up in a dysfunctional household.

Yes parents being involved is good but that doesn't mean that there is no benefit to rap getting cleaned up a bit.

I haven't seen anybody here say that rap should be cleaned up and the parents won't have to support their kids at all.

There's different categories of Rap though. Rap for us adults and the kiddie Rap.

Funny to me is what did they blame the violence on prior to Hip Hop's rise in popularity? Those n!ggas in the 80s, late 70s, were vicious, and the soundtrack to the streets was Cameo, Ohio Players, Marvin Gaye, etc.. Reading about Jeff Fort and Bull in Chicago and the history of the Stones, bodies were getting dropped left and right and Hip Hop was non existent. I will agree that the modern music does have some influence, but how much? The rival cartels in Mexico have mariachi bands that perform diss tracks, they do music videos threatening their rivals. We wouldn't blame the music for the violence though, would we? Any credit given to the music should be minimal. The problem is drugs, economics, family breakdown, white supremacy, etc.. The music is just an outward symptom, similar to a sneeze or a cough. You can treat the symptoms with cough suppressants, tissues for a runny nose, etc.. Even then you're only trying to mitigate the symptoms. The actual disease or infection requires getting to the root of the problem, hence antibiotics. Blame the music all you want, criticize it, throw warning labels on it, shame it, ban it, etc, whatever. The problem will still exist even after all that.
