To Me LB removed all the Fronting and theatrics from there music, were two relatable dudes that consistently gave you dope rhymes over flawless production and they rank higher to me than most of the groups you named. Wu for example was monumental but i dont even listen to any of their group work like that.

I wouldn’t count little brother as the normal southern rap. They’re more east coast in their approach and styling. you can tell they grew up listening to rawkus records, ATCQ, okayplayer, etc.

These dudes ITT haven't listened to much LB, I can guarantee it. Phonte is rapping circles around a lot of these groups by himself. Pooh is no slouch either.

Let's face it, this can be said about most rap groups and their producers.
When you first pop onto the scene if you lyrically sharp and your beats aint shyt all you'll ever be known as is a little-known underground legend who can never break-out. We've all seen and heard them all over. Face it, if Guru didnt have Premier he'd probably be known as a great lyricist but wouldnt be the star that he was. I can name many more that would fit right into that sentence of yours.

Ive always thought The Lox and Clipse were garbage sitting on top of good production. I like some Mobb Deep but like @Inf1ne was saying about LB, you take the production away and Mobb Deep is ...average.

LB cant compare to these other groups, IMO. Tho i cant really comment on Run DMC and Public Enemy because that was slightly before my time in the U.S. and into rap as a genre

i hate that argument both ways...if you from the south/grew up in the south, you're a southern artist. aint no one way southern music is supposed to sound, so an MC from the south is free to have their music sound however. cats from the mid-atlantic/northeast use this as well to conveniently claim artists - they do it with j cole, clipse, even jay electronica.
