You have a label. Artist is in his prime. Do you make them hold on to the music or flood the market

imo I'd make the artist keep all the music and make as much as possible while in his prime. Disperse those albums every 2-3 years.

This is kind of of spin off thread. I've stated many times I'm not a huge Wayne fan. But a lot of his prime was wasted on mixtape and features. Imagine if he saved these songs/verses even if they were 5 years old. You can always keep the vocals and update or tweek the production


Id rather keep it in the vault to continue to drop classics

Plus it makes people hungry for your music

Not everything should be meant to see the light of day. Less is more, except in hip-hop where everyone has ADHD and gets spoiled by free shyt.

If I were a label exec the best I'd do is let someone drop an EP here and there if you really wanna get something new out. All people are ultimately gonna judge when your career is done is what you did on your albums so that should be the focus (granted I'd give the artist more freedom on that end but that's a different debate.)

But who's really buying this shyt? I didn't buy either of those albums. DL'd them all on Google Play, gave them a listen and deleted them when I realized they weren't all that good.

I remember once upon a time in the early early 90s when going Gold was the shyt then the game stepped and more people became interested in the music and then it was all about going plat. What's the climate now? How much does a rapper have to sell to be considered a success? I honestly don't know anymore.

But fromthe label standpoint they are just gonna milk him while he's hot and once he's over saturated and no one is checking for him they move on to the next dude while Future(in this case) dwindles away back to obscurity.

Hiphop is the ABSOLOUTE worst for oversaturation and just flooding the market, especially with free shyt.
They got fans not knowing what a mixtape or an album is anymore so they ain't paying for these albums when they just got the mixtape(album quality) for free.

once its buzzin drop your album while its hot. Ride that by touring and and doing as many shows as possible.

once that dies down go back to doing features and prepping your next album. drop your first single...let that continue to buzz...few months later drop another single...let that buzz. then drop the album.

THis should be done over a two year process....but dudes be trying to hard to keep their names in the spotlight giving away mixtapes and free songs all the time....they doing that same process in a year or even less.

I'd just do whatever Drake is doing. Which is hitting the market, falling back while still dropping features here and there, showing back up with a ton of material, then fading out again to do features, then showing out again, etc.

Your fans eventually will tire out though, no matter what artist you are or plan you have. You can't fight time, only look to prolong your stay and get it while you can.

As the head of the label, that's what I'd do to each of my artists. It's cold, but that's just how time goes.

I still don't see how flooding hte market with FREE average mixtapes really helps anyone though. Its such a terrible business practice. I don't get why they do that.

I mean, releasing a new free song here and there is one thing. but full mixtapes? nah.
