You have a label. Artist is in his prime. Do you make them hold on to the music or flood the market

if you're a basura, gimmick artist: flood the market. Drake, J Cole, Kendrick, Lil Wayne, Future, Gucci, etc. Your music is secondary to your persona. So it'll wear off quickly. Gotta keep feeding em that disposable trash :banderas:

If you're an actual artist interested in quality, flooding the market is the dumbest thing ever. In fact, great artists never flood the market because it's downright impossible. It takes so long to make the quality product and be inventive.

I never said NOT to put out music. I'm saying though, a song or two or a video or two is better for keeping your buzz then a full mixtape.

especially when ppl ain't really got time checking for mixtapes like that. but a song or two is perfect. Plus doing features and songs with other artists.

Music is cheap to record, its not cheap to make. Those features are NOT free. and most rappers nowadays are doing mixtapes where every song has a featured artist or two. and they may get some free features or some quid pro quo shyt but nothing is free.
How is releasing these mixtapes hurting the artist?

The idea that it takes time to make a quality project is just false and just plays up to the myths you guys create for your favorite artist

I'm not having this convo with you again. You're an idiot.
Dummy we have no idea of the creative process these artist have

Just because someone take 2 years between projects doesn't mean they were recording an album for 2 years they probably took a couple months

This is just gymnastics some of you perform to feel good about your favorite artist not dropping music like they should

I suppose it depends on the artistic aim and image of the artist.

The artists you see flooding the market tend to be less substantive and have shorter shelf lives(i.e. trap rappers.) Their fanbases are way more fickle and are looking for the quick "turn-up". You have to flood the market with them because the fans have so many alternatives/ clones they can get the same fix from.

Artists with more carefully crafted musical identifies are held to higher standards by their fans so you have to go quality over quantity. If J Cole and Kendrick were dropping as many projects as say....Future and Thugga things would go sour sooner than later with even the slightest deviation in quality. You gotta hold the music back and let those fans digest the uniqueness of an individual project then let them scream for more before you let that artist cook. A great feature or low-key EP here and there between albums won't kill anything though.

this isn't really false though.

see alot of times dudes will record like 20-30 songs (or more), then take the best songs and put it on their albums. And they would take their times crafting those songs.

thats why I laugh when I hear rappers and producers brag about they made a beat or a song in 5 minutes.....then when you hear the beat or song you can understand why.

Artists need to put more time and effort in to their craft. No reason to force it

pretty much what you said

let him record like a madman while he's in the zone, then pick out the best tracks and release them as singles over the next 2-3 years and drop dope albums with the best material

As I stated J Cole dropped 3 mixtapes before his last album and a compilation

they are oversaturating themselves with little payoff in the end.

9/10 most ppl would be happy to just hear a new song. a mixtape is mostly overkill.

So how does this niegatively affect the artist. People are only listening to the songs they like from any project
As a record exec, how do I measure my artists success.

You measure it through the how many shows an artist is doing, hostings and features and songs charting

Trust me, breh you couldn't be further from the truth. It takes time and dedication to create masterpieces.

Where's the proof to this? This logic is so silly
