You have a label. Artist is in his prime. Do you make them hold on to the music or flood the market

and future sound is going to be dead next year

That's not the point.

The label are off of him these two years

If you sign an NBA player to your team, y'all win back to back championships and he wins MVP back to back, you hope he can do it a third year but you're still happy those two seasons happened right?

this isnt the nba dog.

you want to milk the product as long as possible. would you rather have an artist like michael jackson who you can eat off of forever or just a seasonal muhfukka who sound is based off a trend?

I think the old model still works, and that's what I'll go by. The artists flooding the market I would look at as a 1-hit wonder. I'm signing to a single deal, and put that 1-2 track on overkill.

Everyone else, we're gonna nurture that album. Even if it only takes 1 month to record, we're gonna work the hell out of it. Drop 1 single, a street single, we have some cuts that won't make the album that we can drop here n there, video, a couple of guest appearances...there's no need for mixtapes, since we're gonna rely on the quality of the main project. This will be a 1.5 - 2 year plan.

That's what I think is missing today, and if labels went back to working albums, the game would filter itself out. Mixtapes get in the way of the main project, especially while your working on the main.

ok.
prince.
jay z.
the beatles.
r kelly.

the point is you need to strive for artist who make classics.

this why music today is shyt.

these labels looking for quick money when they could make way more money if they signed and pushed better artist.

I always thought Mixtapes should be a rapper's way into the industry or only dropped after their streak is over if they've have some throwaway tracks.

I'd advise him to put his upmost effort into albums/verse features so he has a pristeen discography and maybe drop a track or two over a month's period. I'll try get him on as many hooks as possible just so people still acknowledge the fact that he's around.
