Y'all make the same threads every gotdamn day
How can y'all understand how to use the internet, but not understand the effects of the internet age on music? Mfs steady complaining about rap is trash, but the only things you quote to support that claim is the radio and the XXL freshman list. It's fukking 2016, everybody with a laptop can make music. If you want to find lyricists and shyt you have to do a little more than open up a magazine and expect the greatest rappers of this generation to be spoon fed to you.
Even that is a half truth, Kendrick sold 320k his first week with TPAB. Young Thug did less than 30k with Barter 6. Even Future the biggest trap rapper made less sales than Cole and Kendrick with DS2, so miss me with that, real rap isn't promoted bullshyt. Y'all wanna hear dope rappers but put forth zero effort towards finding them.
its fine theres so many atist out that all have their own style and lane I fail to see how anyone can find time to wine about shyt. What threads do you want to see more of?
What do you think about the state of rap today?
This came out better than i expectedY'all make the same threads every gotdamn day

For someone who isn't talented it's in their best interest to build a name off their image and adapt the popular sound. That's what 90% of these soundcloud rappers are doing.
That's the problem
Y'all actually accept non-talented nikkas in the game, if their image is right and they can mimick current trends
Broad shyt
Sad but true. This has always been a thing tho. Charisma is a huge part of a rappers success because most of these guys are just creating personas at the end of the day. As far as dudes like 21 savage and Chief Keef blowing up cause they are who they say they are in their raps, it's both a good and bad thing imo. But I feel you as far as my generation supporting nikkas like Playboi Carti, dudes who would not have had nearly as much success in rap if they didn't spend as much time taking selfies with guns on instagram. That's the problem

Mainstream hip hop is objectively worse than 20 years years. Compare the talent of the top 25 selling rappers in 1996 compared to 2016Most of these dudes crying about how terrible everything is are just mad because music made 20-30 years apart don't sound exactly the same or have the exact same stylistic approach.
As if ANY musical genre's sound has ever stayed the same over the course of 20-30 years
40'/s Blues sound anything like 60's soul/r&b?
60's soul/r&b sound anything like 80's r&b?
80's r&b sound anything like 2000's r&b?
NOPE
So why the fukk people think rap is gonna be any different?
If you grew up off 90's rap...music made 20 years afterwards aren't supposed to be specifically catered towards your tastes...
The reason there are 20 lil uzis to 1 Kendrick is because there are far more average people than there are talented. For someone who isn't talented it's in their best interest to build a name off their image and adapt the popular sound. That's what 90% of these soundcloud rappers are doing. Nobody in their feelings famo, you just lack a rebuttal

MCs/rappers aren't supposed to be average. The whole reason rap/hip hop is great is because of above average talent. People are complaining because you got untalented average ass nikkas getting a pass.
Blame the internet. Music is in the hands of the people, we're at a point in time that you don't need a label to be successful. If that means you have to go on youtube to find some dope shyt, that's fineyea, which is why the music business has turned to shyt. the world was a better place when i didn't have to go on a scavenger hunt to find great music and i could just turn on the radio.
the illegal downloading fukked up the game, i hate to say. i'm as guilty as anyone because i got to experience so much music i would have never heard otherwise but at the same time it killed the industry.
