He stole that money, what he does with that money is irrelevant. Similarly, you sell goods for money. As long as that money isn't counterfeit, it doesn't matter where that money came from.

Say you're a drug dealer who needs $500 to re-up
You have $200 in cash and $300 in product
Someone steals $100 from you, you now have $100 in cash $300 in product, leaving you -$100 for the re-up
The same person comes back and buys $60 worth of product with the same $100 bill, you give him $40 in change
You now have $160 in cash and $240 in product
$160 + $240 = $400
You lost $100.
