for most of human history people generally died around those ages. It's a natural thing, once a few generations start hitting those upper decades more consistently, the genes react accordingly with us looking younger longer (generally, if in good health).

People lived as long as they lived now. It was just that the infant and child mortality rate was so high that it brought average life expectancies down until the 20th century. People who survived diseases in childhood will carry the battle scars too and that contributed to why people looked so old in the past.

Look at pictures of your parents and grandparents when they were in high school. My grandmother was a part of the bobby socks generation but they wore big supremes wigs and heavy make up and dresses to everything. My parents came up in the 70s and early 80s, their high school pictures look like grown ups in Ebony Magazine or the old Seagram’s ads. These girls running around today with heavy lace fronts and make up and are aging themselves just like our parents and look like babies without all of the extra.
