Governments tend to view everything that undermines their system of governance as extreme and I think our current system needs wholesale change.

Privacy of abode is not the same as privacy of institution.
You don't have to apply for a license to live in your home, you don't have to subscribe to data protection rules, you don't have to be able to present a door policy if required, you can serve people drinks whenever you want etc.
It ain't the same thing.
To "say something" is not just to be able to physically say it. It means that you should have the right to say it where I have the right to say my own pleasant opinion. It means that it should be a level playing field.
When the Royals of old locked up dissenters in dungeons for the rest of their lives they were not championing the cause of free speech by not chaining their mouths shut. It is not just about allowing people to speak, it is about not constraining their ability to use channels of communication to get their message out beyond the degree to which we constrain others.
