There's really no upside to deactivating him or announcing Flacco as the number 2. What a performative set of moves. Just leave him on the bench in case the other two get injured, smh.

I mean he's only in his second year.

You can't expect him to be great this soon.

Starting him and then deactivating him every week isn't going to help the case.

He'll get another chance on a better organization. He's white so he'll no doubt get several more opportunities.

back in the day that mattered not anymore.

With most qbs nowadays you at least see something their second year

they have to set their roster each week, there is nothing performative about it. teams don’t always carry 3 QBs on the active roster

The Jets have no one on their offensive coaching staff that has been on the job for more than two seasons. These guys are first time coaches along with the first time NFL quarterback. That is a recipe for disaster

It's not about a lack of great, it's about being one of the worst QBs in the league two years in a row in an era that's never been more QB friendly. You can't be terrible and have your team respond better to any QB that isn't you.

Really reminds me of Alex Smith at the beginning of his career. Difference is Alex has always been likeable and had a good attitude. Zach does not come across that way.

I would generally agree, but he played at BYU against limited competition and then was pushed start for a New York team. Mahommes sat & so did Trey Lance. They also got a chance to at least see what type of preparation was necessary for a starter in the NFL. He had questionable leadership in college (he wasn't a captain at BYU) and the Jets set him up to fail. I'm not trying to make excuses for him as a player, but he never had this level of expectation until he got to the NFL. They rushed him out there and now these are the results. Lawrence and Fields were scripted to be the top 2 qbs all year, and then we had to go and reach for Wilson. We could have taken Watson or Mahommes years ago, when the Bears reached for Trubisky. We just keep missing layups.

The difference is, Alex had offensive coaches on the staff that have NFL experience longer than he had been in the league unlike Zach.

I repeat….Mike LaFleur is a bigger problem than Zach Wilson.

Zach will play elsewhere and perform.

The Yay
When I was watching tape of 2021 QBs I labeled Wilson a boom or bust prospect. His arm strength was good and he was making a lot of throws many other qbs in the league couldnt make.

The main issue I saw with him that made me concern for his floor is how inconsistent and sometimes outright bad he was in bread and butter nfl qb short, medium, intermediate throws to move the chains.

I'm sure the OC is a big issue because I haven't seen too many gimmes dialed up when I did watch the Jets. But I still haven't seen him have that dink and dunk move the chains ability. He looks like a thrower, not someone in control of the offense. I don't know.

His attitude being trash doesn't help either. If he said all the right things he'd probably still be starting. But your teammates losing trust in a qb never bodes well for the qb. You got some remedial qbs in the league who were loved by their teammates. Pickspatrick, Jimmy G, Foles. Being a struggling qb and an a$$hole who shuns accountability just alienates your fellow players and is a bad look. Look at Wentz, and Wentz was once an MVP candidate.
