Looking at many of the replies, it's obvious that too many Americans have been trained to be politically and historically illiterate bootlickers, who mistakenly believe that anything other than underregulated free-market hypercapitalism is 'COMMUNISM'!
It's really sad to see.

Asked about his political strategy back in August, Trump spelled it out: "All we have to do is define our opponent as being a communist or a socialist or somebody that's gonna destroy our country."
He's right.
It's called 'Divide and Rule', and it still very effective today.

I asked @grok what the worst-case scenario was of @elonmusk's takeover of @X:
"Worst-case scenario: Hate speech spirals unchecked, fueling widespread violence, authoritarianism, and societal collapse as trust in institutions and marginalized groups erodes completely."

A tax of just 5% on the world’s multimillionaires & billionaires could raise $1.7 TRILLION (an almost unimaginable amount) a year - enough to lift TWO BILLION people out of poverty, & fund a global plan to end hunger.

The combined wealth of the richest 1% of US citizens is around $50 TRILLION (31% of total US household wealth).
The combined wealth of the poorest 50% of US citizens is about $4 trillion (2.5%).
In 2023, 11 million of the 37 million US citizens living in poverty were children.

Combined wealth richest 0.1% of US citizens:
$20 TRILLION (14% of total US household wealth).
Poorest 50%: $4trn (2.5%).
Each group contributes 10-11% of the total $7.7trn in federal, state, & local tax revenue (4.25% of the 0.1%'s total wealth, & 19% of the poorest 50%'s).

Because Americans have for more than a century been conditioned by divisive corporate propaganda to be wary of Big Government, they now too often overlook the fact that both Governments AND Corporations can be either good or bad.

For a different take on neoliberalism & Corporate #propaganda, I strongly recommend Cory Wimberley's excellent book: 'How Propaganda Became Public Relations: Foucault & the Corporate Government of the Public'.

I'm NOT saying the US should do this, so it's just for fun/context - @grok says:
"If the combined wealth of America’s TEN richest men ($1.75 TRILLION) were transferred to the poorest 50% of American adults (around 130 MILLION people) each of them would receive around $13,500."

'Why do so many Americans passionately & mistakenly believe any criticism of free-market capitalism is a proposal to replace it with Communism, when all modern & historical economies are mixed economies, combining elements of both socialism & capitalism?'

This is the path she'd lead us down. Socialism and communism always end like this.
