It's funny because Drake and his team are the main culprits behind promoting albums as "mixtapes"

6God is a benevolent god and leads by example. :banderas:

As was said in the OP and people are conveniently forgetting, 'altapes' must have an element of flopping involved. They are created in moments of crisis when flopping is occurring/imminent. so bringing up Drake is irrelevant in this case because he doesn't flop.

My bad, Kendrick calls it an "album" while simultaneously saying his "debut album" is coming later
Kendrick Lamar Talks 'Section.80,' New Album and Upcoming Videos

Yet Interscope calls it his debut album (wikipedia+media) and multiple reviews call it his debut album.

If anything you could say GKMC is his major label debut. Yea technically he was on Interscope when Sec80 came out but that album is clearly not a major label project. Listen to the quality, the features, the production etc and compare it to GKMC. It's not close (even if you like Sec80 more).

:mjlol:

The backbending you're doing and justifications to not call it a debut major label album :russ:

Dude it is:stopitslime:

I said Sec80 is his debut album. GKMC is his major label debut album. I'm not wrong lol.

It's not like I'm driving a narrative, it's widely viewed that way lol. And I like both albums obviously so...what's my agenda?
:jbhmm:
Having worked for a major label before I see no prob with this. Expect the same thing to happen whenever Anderson Paak's "major label debut" album comes out. That's just how this shyt goes....

It's prob more prominent in rock. Soundgarden's first album was Ultramega OK but Louder Than Love is their major label debut.

separating one from the other is kind've lame :yeshrug:

an album is an album, whether it came out on major label or not.

Paak actually had a few joints out before Malibu.. used to post them in The Lounge back few years back..

matter if fact,, his run from 2013-present is pretty damn remarkable.. :whew:

Venice is dope.

It's basically a marketing thing. When a semi new artist signs to a major label they want to rebrand them and start over.

I'm sure the money covers up the underlying inferiority complex he feels for being a complete fraud. Money fixes everything, right?

dont listen to Koven that dude idolizes ovo. He thinks PND bought a $40 million dollar house in LA cash :laff:

It's actually scary how these dudes derive self-worth by living vicariously through other grown men. Maybe they're little kids I duno, that would be the only logical explanation honestly.

Keeping my overhead low, and my understand high
While there have been notable insecurities around this concept (e.g. Section80 being Kendrick's album but then said it was a mixtape to sell the idea of a classic 'debut' :mjlol:), this is by far the most fevered discussion around it.

Y'all really got me :dead: over this DC4 album/mixtape shyt. Aside from my stalkers, it's easily the most insecure shyt I've read online in quite some time. Might even take the cake from K Dot Minaj pretend-martyrs.

So this is the new gimmick? The Altape? or do we call it the Mixbum? Which sounds more insecure? Which has more of a 'flop' feel?

Whichever it is, let's roll with that :salute:

Not reading your post but 2016 don't mark shyt about an 'altape'

Mixtapes have been for sale forever... I've bought plenty of mixtapes in my life and it didn't take away from the fact that they were mixtapes...

As a matter of fact, this just reminded me of mixtapekings.com.... I'ma see if that site still exists:patrice:

How convenient that you leave off

"If your reading this it's too late"

The "mixtape" that started this current trend

Oddly enough it was a mixtape that I don't remember being available for streaming for free when it dropped :ld:

It was free for like an hour, and I think that was by accident :lolbron:if you get on tunelinks enough, you'll end up seeing albums listed as mixtape downloads until they realize they fukked up :laff:

Then why are you even here? :what: And quoting me for that matter :dahell:

Your comment, while true, is completely irrelevant to the subject of the thread. Which you would know if you read the OP you freely came into.:martin:
