When was Section 80 ever labelled as a mixtape :dwillhuh:

They called GKMC his debut because he was on a major label, same way they labelled Oxymoron as Q's Debut on interscope...Habits & Contradictions wasn't a mixtape either, They were independent albums.

We've been through this :russell: Kendrick was on Interscope before Section80. CONFIRMED. He was already on a major label. His Section80 videos said Interscope on them shyts.

So why in the hell was GKMC ever discussed as a debut? :jbhmm: Especially among journalists who should and probably know better? :jbhmm: Really think about that shyt.

The only reason they were able to pull off that lie was in convincing most casual fans that section80 was some kinda mixtape. It's all about narrative when it comes to casuals, breh

the thing that blurred the lines is dj drama's case/trap tapes dropping with all original production.

what would you call gucci, waka, future etc tapes with DJ tags/rewinds all over them? (i personally call it a "no dj" google search... but still, complicates the issue)

I consider them tapes I guess cause the presence of a DJ

And gimme that shyt with as many DJ tags as possible I hate no DJ versions

it's gangsta grillz you b*stards

Iyrtitl wasn't desperate :usure:

A pop artist putting out a "street" rapping mixtape that employed a ghostwriter for the majority of it? He called it a mixtape but it was only available for retail? :patrice:

But in reality , I don't see why any rapper who is known would put out a free mixtape in 2016.

I noticed Gucci like fukk that, I'll just put out a new album every 2 months....

Not sure why Meek put his shyt out to be streaming for free, but I guess since it's been a minute it was a little more important to get his music back in the streets than worrying about sales as much

Not to mention that everyone was claiming the real genius behind the project was that Drake only released it to get out of his Young Money/Cash Money deal, hence the title of the cd, meanwhile 2 projects later (soon to be 3 with More Life in December) and he's still on YMCMB, with Weezy, Birdman, J. Prince, Jimmy Iovine, his agents, managers, and lawyers all still getting a cut of every song/cd he drops.

Dude is signed to whatever company J. Prince has him signed to, YMCMB/Universal, Apple, and Jordan Brand/Nike, some of the biggest corporations in the world and THE biggest in their respective industries and people wonder why he can't be touched and never flops. These companies can put literally no money into promoting his projects, then buy 2-3 million of his albums or more, which is peanuts to them (or in Apples case just inflate the numbers at NO cost to them) and make him seem completely untouchable. There may never have been an artist in the entire history of the music industry who has so many different corporate interests invested in his success, as long as he has no serious scandals he's never going to be allowed to fail.

Hahahahaha wowwww, people are really blind, deaf, and dumb when it comes to this dude. J. Prince and YMCMB completely built Drake's credibility, who knows what kinda dirt Birdman has on Drake from the beginning of his career, he might never get out of that Cash Money contract.

What I'm saying is I never saw a single person claiming it as a mixtape? That's the project that made me a fan too so I can semi remember certain threads..I always saw it labelled as an album.
