the real hiphop.
Its his opinion but I could care less. Dude legit thinks his opinion in hiphop matters...

For the record, I thought the album was dull and kinda boring in the beginning but now I enjoy it a lot, the track sequencing makes it flow really good, granted its a quite short album but still very enjoyable.

Pretty sure everyone thinks their opinion matters...

He's been listening to hip hop as long as anyone here, probably longer than most.

People will always look to disprove anyone's opinion if it's different from theirs.

In this case Rappaport's opinion doesn't matter because he's a cac but if he were black you'd all just be calling him a c00n instead. So really there's no winning on here if you don't agree with the group think consensus.

lmao has the album even been out 2 weeks?

and somebody said 4:44 is AOTY? Eh...maybe. DAMN. is as good as it gets imo. More life and You Only Live 2wice are fire, too. Compared to a lot of other things that are already out and the genre itself, 4:44 is relatively boring. Not saying it's trash but I do feel my joints starting to hurt and think about how I should get a prostate exam every time I make it past track 2.

I'd say RD and BP are pretty much unassailable.
Personally, I'd put Vol 1, TBA and AG in the great category. I don't think any of them are classics. TBA is closest of the three. I haven't heard 4:44 but it's way too soon to call it a classic anyway.
My arguments for those albums being classic aren't based on my personal opinions. Opinions vary from person to person. To me classics are about how an album resonates with the rap community as a whole. There are plenty of albums considered classic that are just "good" in my personal opinion.

You say that RD and BP are "unassailable" so I won't post the argument for them.

Vol2-People discredit it now and some even hated on it for being too commercial back then but that album was a monster. I say it's a classic because it had several great songs and the impact marked a time in hip hop history. You can't talk about hip hop during 98-99 without talking bout that album. You still hear joints from vol2 being played today.

Black album-This album was a monster too. Great songs and an impact that again, marked a period in music history. I remember of everybody doing their own remix versions of this album where the put jay's lyrics over different music. You also still hear joints from this album played today.

American Gangster- great album but the weakest argument for classic of the bunch. The impact was there but maybe not as much snthe others listed here. I do see some calling it a classic tho.

4:44-Monster album that has definitely resonated as something refreshing. Everybody's paying homage from fans to other rappers. People catching feelings off lines and fans dissecting each line looking for hidden gems. Has that classic feel. I don't think that it too early to call it a potential classic. We know what we're all hearing. The replay value is there.

so he spends the first part telling you exactly why it's hiphop, but after that says it's not hiphop cause 'he not rocking over funky beats'?....lol get the fukk outta here....he shouldve just said the album wasnt for him cause he found it boring...being extra, trying to label it as not hiphop, makes me think he has other motives/reasoning behind saying that....

It's a Jay album.

Jay's albums make waves regardless if they are good or bad for the simple fact that it's Jay.

People were dissecting lines from MCHG when it dropped. That album was the hot topic of conversation as well...until it wasn't.

Album has been out less than a month. You have no idea what kind of 'impact' or 'replay value' it's going to have in the long term.

No indication that there are any classic hits off this album, let alone calling it a classic album.
