I got it from a news article no lie, it actually said over 75% of shooting victims had criminal records. But you're right doesn't per se mean they were gang members.

But at the same time, my breh was a part of a gang in South Shore that beefed with NLMB, and we were watching a music video and he was just counting of all the nikkas he knew that got killed, n while he said it was some innocents, most nikkas getting killed were gang members and def in that life

I think it's both. Stopping the music alone won't solve the problem but at the same time this promotion of destruction isn't helping at all.

I vaguely remember Chicago during the height of the chaos, as I was really young but I did study some of it. Like I recall seeing and hearing about it but I was too young to see the whole scope. But as you said the drugs and the death of the family structure helped to create today's climate. Like I said this music is making it worse and we just to accept that and not see it as some unwarranted attack on hiphop. It's part of the problem, not the cause nor the root but it's having a bad affect on many kids.

Anyway I was listening to NPR yesterday and they were talking about this same issue. They were saying how things there are getting back to 90's level of violence. That says a lot. I'm not sure what the solution is but something needs to be done. Unemployment and lack of stable families is a big cause, but how can you control that? How do we get jobs in these neighborhoods and get them to hirer the locals? How do you get through to these people to stop having kids they can't take care of?

But the break down of the black family and its results on the streets is exactly why the music is the way it is. If Chicago was like Salt Lake City the music would be completely different. The only solution to this problem is to fix the black family but how does that happen? We can say unemployment is an issue but that ALWAYS been an issue for black people. There is no family unit and that's been happening for decades. Hip hop is a product of the environment and that's the reason it even exists in the first place

One way in and one way out....in a 21st century American city.

There's been too much evidence and personal accounts of Chicago Police and Chicago City Government committing all types of misconduct and mischief in these neighborhoods. From undercover cops being caught on dash cam shooting in gang neighborhoods to incite violence from opposing gangs (classic LAPD tactic) to personal accounts of bags of guns literally being found in allies in Southside Chicago gang neighborhoods. And let's not even get into police misconduct and police brutality in Chicago....we've already seen several examples with Laquan MacDonald and Paul O'Neal.

The sad thing is, you have "brehs" on here who sound like the cacs who use "Chicago" as one of their main talking points in the 2016 White Supremacy Handbook. Without even looking into context. Again, cacs got black people scared of other black people.

Yep. Folks can't understand that alot of what's going down in Chicago is multi generational gang banging. These gangs have been around since the 50's. And to my knowledge, there hasn't been a major city wide gang truce in Chicago ala what happened in LA in 1992.

Im looking at all these cities that murder rates have gone down and Im still trying to figure out how people keep blaming the music when rates have gone down while the popularity of the music has gone up. My city doesn't even have any known rappers like that but its still violent as hell. And its not becuz of music its becuz of drugs. People aren't involved in the drug game due to music but due to lack of opportunity and the lure of fast money
