It's not all about the pick, they want Thomas to at least be able to play the season.

They're not THAT invested in Thomas. He's going into free agency after this upcoming season as well. He's going to bounce. And he's a 5'9" PG that'll turn 30 this offseason and can't play defense.

They want him for this season, if it were simply about getting the pick they could have rerouted Thomas to a 3rd team and gotten even more assets.

His ability to replace Kyrie's scoring for THIS season is why he's involved in the trade to begin with.

Well, the Cavs definitely didn't help their cause then. If they're that invested in IT as a way to possibly try to convince Bron to stay past this season :mjlol:

but to cavs its about increasing their chance to win...it went from the deal of a lifetime to a bail out...

do they want celtics better than them???

now they need a real number two scorer or someone who can guard kyrie.

The Cavs can't avoid the inevitable; the Cs will surpass them in the East either this season or next. :manny:

So, how does it help their cause by trading for a player that will probably miss training camp and could need surgery during the season?

It doesn't. But you can ask the Cavs' front office because they knew of IT's hip injury and still agreed to it. :KyrieStrikesAgain:

So they shouldn't try to avoid it :ohhh:
Yep.
I'm legit :dwillhuh: at some of these responses.

Seemed to me like the Cavs were ok with IT missing the start of the season:ehh:

Once it looked like he could potentially miss the entire season :wtf:

Celtics get Kyrie for Crowder and a 1st round pick :heh:

Crowder is the only player likely to help them this season :dead:

Boston homers are the worst. :scust:

It's clear the Cavs were led to believe Thomas would be ready to play fairly early in the season; probably December. Then Cleveland conducted their own physical and saw the hip is much worse than Danny said it was, so they're understandably telling them to ante up. :stopitslime:

They knew he had an injury, but they probably didn't know he had a structural flaw in his hips that makes reaggravating it more likely especially without surgery. How upfront were they? The Cavs think he might need surgery, the Celtics didn't announce that he wont need surgery until after Kyrie's trade demand went public :mjlol:

The timeline is even more :stopitslime: when you look at it -

July 21st

July 26th
Celtics' Danny Ainge says Isaiah Thomas will not require hip surgery

What a coincidence, Ainge says Thomas doesn't need surgery 5 days after Kyrie demand is made public :mjlol:
