As another poster mentioned, I think the point is that a Nascar driver, country music star, southern chef, British pop star, etc. would be "allowed" to express the image that's primarily associated with them, while Bun, for whatever reason, wasn't "allowed" to or deliberately chose not to.

The part where he pulled his mouth back with his hands was cringe worthy. Reminded me of the slave auctions

Exactly... that's such a big part of why that ad, and Bun's presentation of himself are so curious.

That's not Bun. That's not the public image that Bun consistently presents, and it's something, despite his likeable nature, that I thought he rejected.

It's almost as if, and I think another poster mentioned this, they were trying to emasculate him.

I don't know what you're trying to convey in this post.
you said Bun wasn't allowed to be himself or represent the image associated with is image , dude was flipping tru vinyl's, personally I don't see a problem with this ad and Im happy that they put personalities from different backgrounds :manny:

It's just odd because it's not the side of Bun's personality he's deliberately, publicly shown over the years. That includes his rap appearances as well as speaking engagements, interviews, etc in black and white media outlets. Now if that is the real Bun, then we've all been duped something serious.

And if that's how Bun wants to make his debut on the big stage, then so be it. Again, it's curious.

Not saying it's bad or good... hell even DRAKE went extra with his articulation and enunciation on SNL, and if anyone DIDN'T have to go extra, it was DRAKE. Guess it's just the game... or the inner pressure to come off as non threatening to keep getting big mainstream dollars and visibility.

I dont even think its about "they" emasculating Bun. I think this is a microcosm of how most blacks think they have to act around whites. I bet Bun did this on his own. He wasnt told to do anything. If anything, it highlights one of our problems of us always feeling the need to act hard and be extra masculine around other blacks but when we get around whites we can let our gaurd down and show a "non-threatening" demeanor. Im telling yall: the hiphop culture is conditioning us to hate and fear ourselves.which makes us feel the need to act hard when other blacks are around.

You're on fire right now...

I think he deliberately did it on his own, too.

That lil' coy-ish, TeleTubby wiggle shyt with the head shake and grade school grin had me like... :what:

Bun?! :dwillhuh:

I just added that "they" because well, in a white supremacist power structure there's always an overarching "they," whether it's conspicuous or inconspicuous.

And it's not just the music, this is a result of society, too. ...as you've alluded to.
