Isnt this kind of too little too late? It’ll just signal the rest to buy up now before they close the door. Unless the lack of homes is finally showing to hurt major cities cause i know plenty of people that dipped down south

6 Months later, wheres the progress?

"The bill, which has been referred to committee but has yet to receive a vote, would effectively ban hedge funds from owning any single-family homes within 10 years of its passage."

It's very likely not going to pass. If you're a full time employee with a pension fund, look at what that fund is invested in. All they need to do to kill this bill is say "the pensions need to keep up with inflation. Investment is the only way, and people's retirement depends on us being financially strong and demonstrating growth. Continued acquisition of properties helps achieve that goal. If you ban us from doing this, then the millions of Americans retiring each month will be disappointed in the amount of money they'll get"

And because congress looks more like a care home than a brain trust of experienced but energetic people interested in building a good future for their children, they'll quickly accept that explanation and vote against the bill. This is an example of political theatre. They want you to think they care by at least introducing the policy but they will not vote for it. They're voting against their own interests if they do. They're not smart enough to come up with actual solutions. American politics has just become a money making scam for people who already have millions in the bank figuring out how they can double or triple that income with insider knowledge they get from meeting with lobbyists representing major firms.

This would be great, but sadly it is never going to pass. Corporations own the country, so these kind of bills are largely dog and pony shows that never pass. However, if it was giving handouts to corps, taking our rights or giving tons of money to other countries overseas, it would pass at the speed of light. You see the circus that modern politics is.

So...what's the alternative?

I find myself asking this question more and more in political discourse.

Should these bills not be introduced at all? Even if it dies in committee, was it worth being introduced in the first place?

And to the point of bills like these being "dog and pony shows"...there are better ways of giving empty platitudes than investing time, energy and money on a bill you don't intend to see through to becoming a law.
