No but top 10 all time means 99% aren’t making the list lol

Fight the power
CREAM
Straight outta Compton
Shook ones pt2
Juicy
The message
Rappers delight
Children’s story
Paid in full
Dear mama
Nothing but a g thing
Planet rock
Troy
Gin and juice
Stan
Lose yourself
Brenda’s got a baby
Mass appeal

Off top based off of importance and impact to rap. Idk Hov may not make top 25. The essential Jay song maybe Izzo or hard knock life but compared to others it doesn’t come close

Nas doesn’t make it but I think NY State of mind is top 25

I’m sure there’s a lot more that could make it. But whatever the 10 is I don’t think the list is changing anytime soon

No argument Top 10.. no order

1. The Message - Grandmaster Flash
2. Paid in Full - Rakim
3. Nothin But a G Thang - Snoop
4. NY State of Mind - Nas
5. Dear Mama - Tupac
6. Juicy - Biggie Smalls
7. Childrens Story - Slick Rick
8. In Da Club - 50 Cent
9. Lose Yourself- Eminem
10. Today Was a Good Day - Ice Cube.

Then you got... Planet Rock, Shook Ones, TROY, California Love, Straight Outta Compton, Crossroads, Mo Money, Mo Problems etc.

Hov and Wayne dont have one in the Top 25 if we bein honest.

Otis or The Story of OJ

My top 10 list would be something like

1. The Message - Grandmaster Flash
2. Paid In Full- Eric B and Rakim
3. Memory Lane- Nas
4. Juicy- Biggie Smalls
5. Dear Mama- Tupac Shakur
6. Shook Ones Pt2 - Mobb Deep
7. Today Was A Good Day- Ice Cube
8. Nuthin But A G Thang- Dr Dre and Snoop Dogg
9. Money Trees- Kendrick Lamar ft Jay Rock
10. Bone Thugz N Harmony- 1st Day Of The Month

The notion of a "Top 10 Hip Hop Song" is itself ridiculous.

I could name like 1000 songs that one could credibly argue are "Top 10"

Who's Top Ten are we talking about? Cause if we go by generation, then those songs might be rated by millenial and Gen Z.

If we're only accepting the opinions of Boomers and Gen X, then I can understand not agreeing.
Ain't shyt GOATish about Otis and Story Of OJ. Stop it. All time is all time. If you want to argue that (still wrong probably), make a different thread.

Lol in MY mind if I was to make a top 10 list of greatest hip hop songs to ME, an argument can be made. Yall in here talking about T.R.O.Y., Grandmaster Flash and all that other flabby bullshyt like there ain't thousands of songs that have came out since that isn't miles better than all that old shyt...this just ones man's opinion tho

:yeshrug:

Surprised this turned into a Nas versus Jay thread :skip:

Jay don't have anything close to a top 10 all time hip hop track but :mjlol: at songs that ain't even top 10 Jay tracks being listed

Yea, I’ve already said as much :wtf:

Im replying to your original comment that ‘if any Nas song made it it’d be IIRTW’. Imo It would clearly be NY state of mind for the reasons I mentioned .

Still not gonna make top 10, but that would be his highest ranking song in a ‘greatest hip hop songs all time ’ context

every song on illmatic made rappers step their game up

we could be talking about memory lane, and it wouldn't make a difference

IIRTW is universal, it is what it is

You know what @Chip Skylark I take it back, it's really hard to make the list without an overrepresentation of nyc artists, I think hip hop needs to shift to a top 25 because of the number of artists. Same with the nba top 10 goat debate, who do you take out in order to fit in someone like Curry or Durant there's never going to be enough space after having to give respect to older generations. Knowing that I tried to put together a broader list that take sound and era into account, for example none of these lists had a female mc, there should be at least one to account for women in hip hop. And I still couldn't do it, it's impossible:russ:
Forget Jay Z. Are there 10 song made after 1996 that even belong in the Top 30? Top 50?

are you trolling?:what:
