It was clear it was Bolton's b*stard who had him (to me, at least) once Theon 's boy knocked him out mid speech (hilarious scene by the way, I just laughed out loud thinking bout it), but they opened this season with so much mystery around it that it had me questioning myself. So I can't fault anyone for not making that connection.
I think the shroud of mystery is there for two reasons:
1) to make Ramsay's trolling that much more effective...it's like he's trolling the viewers as well as Theon.
2) it was leading up to the scene where Lord Bolton is making deals with Jamie...so we now have to look at him with side eye.
Props to dude who brought up Lord Bolton's eagerness to flay from season 2...I admit I hadn't made that connection. Looks like it might be like father like son, watch out Brienne

After listening to the Kingslayers backstory from that cute lil comic book chick, I kind of feel bad for Jamie. Dude was put in a bogus, lose-lose situation from the jump. Then I remember how he tossed Bran into the bushes and its like

it just seems like such a dangerous game to play. I'm sure a lot of people really don't intend to spoil shyt, but it just happens. you come in here and see a bunch of people asking, and speculating about, a question you know the answer to (not necessarily "you"). it seems to be too much for some people to resist
