I have never seen anyone look down on smart kids in the black schools I went to.

Street nikkas didn't want you out there, but your peers didn't fukk with that.
I was hotheaded sometimes, the older brehs would keep me out of bullshyt to ensure I never got caught up.
This is about experience, everyone has different experiences.

So I am kind of leaning in the same direction as @futureDevelopment about you. Couldn't help but notice that you are also repping Portland, Oregon.
I don't think anybody is lying in this thread,but what I have realized is what might seem like harmless fun and jokes to you can be horrible for somebody else.
This is just like with people being teased for being dark skin,people got teased for it but the people doing the teasing weren't being malicious,and usually only kept going due to the non reaction,or fake laughter of the person getting clowned. Its the same deal with smart people from what I remember,you would get jokes about how smart you were but nothing really malicious. You might get somebody malicious if you refused to let them copy off your shyt though
Part of the problem is the lack of confidence from the "smart kids" or the "nerds". I was considered smart up until highschool where I struggled and stopped caring once it got too hard(literally when it came to girls and metaporically when it came to the work). But I never let nobody tell me I was a lame for being smart
. Plus nobody tried me after you threaten people who take it too far or violate,or try to take from you.
I think its mostly that nobody wants to be "the nerd" or "the smart kid" because of the correlation that has to being a nerd in mainstream media. So even the slightest jokes to somebody about being smart or a nerd and them nikkas is in shambles

If you are going to raise a kid that is smart you need to make sure you also raise them with supreme confidence for BEING SMART spefefically. That is what I have decided at least needs to happen. There is not alot of positive reinforcement in society and the mainstream that makes it neccessarily cool to be smart. But there is positive reinforcement everywhere you turn that its cool to be dumb,talk dumb,dress dumb etc accross all demographics. I've always been smart in my own way even after my academics declined.But my confidence made me a leader with the nikkas I grew up,who were street nikkas.nikkas can respect a different perspective from somebody they respect and if it makes sense.
most of the smart people who really got it bad were likely europeanized to extreme levels. I did see a girl get teased mercilessly for "sounding white",and believe me she did sound white. After a while though by the time we graduated she had become less europeanized,and didn't sound as white though.

I literally just posed the challenge for cats to simply go to YouTube, and type in "acting white" - kill the speculation and debate.
look at the thousands of videos that pop up. how is that possible of this is not a thing at all? or let me guess, all of those people are in on the great scam

Lets be reality. I can tell a lot of you cats went to school in higher income areas OR you guys were the ones who picked on the 'nerds'.
There have been books written on this phenomena for decades and yet it doesn't really exist.
Also too a lot of you guys are under 30. So in a lot of ways its way more acceptable to have interests outside the mainstream now than it was 25-30 years ago.

Again, most nerds, really smart kids, are squares, and it continues into adulthood. Most find their niche, and have outside interests, but now we’re shifting everything again

Being a nerd in the 80s and 90s was a death sentence. Anyone telling you differently is either lying or went to mixed school or something.
I went to an all black school at least 96% black.
There was no such thing as talking white or acting white. Cause there was no white people around to compare too.
Also going to black schools it was evident that certain black people grew up more privileged than others, but that had nothing to do with acting white, many of those people simply had both parents or a parent that pushed them to study etc wasn't a big deal.
I think the talking white is usually for those who grew up around mixed or white areas.
That's basically non existent in black areas.
Black people have TVs. Not that difficult to know what talking white is...I get one some of these people are saying. It’s not that every smart black kid had problems, it’s more complicated than that. Some of those smart ones have some built up social capital from knowing individuals since very young so they get a pass. Some know how to play it off by acting out in other ways. But it’s some dudes minding there own business not nerdy in appearance that are soft targets.
