I have never seen anyone look down on smart kids in the black schools I went to.

Being smart and a geek are not mutually exclusive
Yeah we get it... I was never a geek. I’m 6’1, athletic, very good looking, was in guess, girbaud, TH, nautica, etc. and I got these comments. I’m not an a$$ , though not very outgoing, stick to myself, small group of homies,

About code switching, I actually never talk white but I have a standard American English accent and a large vocabulary. Meaning I don’t sound like Obama. I sound regular, just not over top with hood lingo. When cats get outta line I code switch when I’m about to smack the shyt out of em. But I’m not breaking my neck to try to sound like I’m down with anyone black, white whoever. You get th3 same voice every time.

All races of kids used to shyt on me for being smart as a kid, but it hurt the most when other black kids called me an Oreo or a coconut. They made it racial while the white kids just called me a nerd, laughed at me and kept it moving :yeshrug:

I agree with y’all that most of the time people level this accusation, that it’s “c00nery” but it does happen at times that academic success is viewed negatively by SOME in the black community :yeshrug:

But this is just my experience. Most black people I met strive for academic success and cheer those who succeed on :ehh:

Y'all telling a goddamn lie.

I remember getting shanked(nikkas would sneak up and stab you with sharpened pencils or pens) for being in the gifted program in middle school. Leaking in 5th period and shyt. Y'all can miss me with this bullshyt you telling.

I'm not doubting YOUR experience, but we don't have the luxury of knowing anything else about you.

I guarantee you you weren't ONLY smart.

You were probably corny or fat or ugly or smug or socially awkward

What was your shoe game like?

Clothing game?

Were you a snitch or a brownoser to the teachers?

shyt literally just happen to my kid at school

hatin on her for liking to read

came home crying :mjcry:

No disrespect, but I guarantee you your daughter aint seen as a dime.

If she was, nikkaz would be pretending to read just to talk to her.

somebody on here brought up how in the 90s if you had a computer or talked that internet shyt you were seen as a big ass nerd

i promise I was the only person at my school on AOL, somebody once said "my momma got dat shyt i think" :mjlol:

but all of that stuff happened, there's been books written on it..some of these cats are guilty of doing this shyt which is why they're lying about it :umad:

Acting white - Wikipedia
It's time to abandon the 'acting white' theory once and for all | Victoria Bond
The myth about smart black kids and "acting white" that won’t die

John McWhorter LITERALLY hates Black people and culture.

He's a c00n to the 10,000th degree who never lived in a Black neighborhood in his life

The nikka wrote an article called "Leave Ben Carson Alone" for fukks sake:snoop:

And yes, EVERYBODY saw people who were on computers as nerds in the early '90s.

Just watch "Saved By The Bell" or any 1,000 White shows or "Revenge of the Nerds"

None of those movies were about the Black community.

This thread is trash. I went to hood ass middle school and a ghetto high school for 9th grade and I was constantly teased for being square and smart as shyt. Plus i didn't rock Jordans, nor would i skip class to buy them, so i was definitely considered lame as fukk.

Thank God i had a strong family and a dad who whooped ass, so i was way more concerned with upsetting my parents then some too cool for school ass nikkas.

So, you already admit your shoe game was trash.

Now, what else was wrong with you?

I guarantee you that if you were a tall, handsome motherfukker who wasn't lame, that wouldn't have happened to you.

“Go into any inner-city neighborhood, and folks will tell you that government alone can’t teach kids to learn. They know that parents have to parent, that children can’t achieve unless we raise their expectations and turn off the television sets and eradicate the slander that says a black youth with a book is acting white.
—Barack Obama, Keynote Address, Democratic National Convention, 2004

You just shot yourself in the foot with this one.

Barry is a mixed race dude raised by White people in Hawaii & Indonesia.

What the fukk does he know about growing up around Black people?

These are EXACTLY the type of c00ns that perpetuate this shyt.

nikkaz like him & McWhorter never lived in a hood their entire lives and went to White schools their whole lives, but tell us how shyt is in the "hood".

argue that Barack obama is a part of a government psy ops conspiracy against black people brehs :russ:

He is.

Aint you one of the main motherfukkers on here shyttin' on Democrats just like Barry for fukking with us?

He is a puppet, a pawn for White interests and always has been.

stopped reading riiiiiiiiiiiiight here. i'm sure nobody remembers when Obama was running against former black panther bobby rush in chicago

people were saying he wasn't "really black" back then too (which is why he lost)...keep in mind, this was before he was :blessed: Barack Obama :blessed:he use to get straight shyt on

he knows what he's talking about, you dudes want so bad for this not to be a thing but there's just too much evidence that it is

Once again, you expose your ignorance.

Bobby Rush is a smart dude as well and one of the great Civil Rights leaders in Chicago's history. Dude is book smart his damned self, so you don't know what you're talking about.

The reason Black folks rejected Barry in Chicago is because he was mixed race, father was from Kenya, not America, and he grew up in Hawaii raised by White people AND went to an Ivy League school

All of these are LEGITIMATE reasons to not rock with him.

It aint because he's smart.

That's literally the most pernicious thing about this bullshyt, that it implies that nobody else is smart who IS accepted.

Is Farrakhan accepted by the Black community?

He uses big words and is articulate.

Was Malcolm X accepted by the Black community?

He was smart and articulate.

You're literally implying that one of Chicago's greatest Civil Rights leaders was an idiot and Obama only lost to him because he was smart. :camby:

I don't think anybody is lying in this thread, but what I have realized is what might seem like harmless fun and jokes to you can be horrible for somebody else.
This is just like with people being teased for being dark skin, people got teased for it but the people doing the teasing weren't being malicious, and usually only kept going due to the non reaction,or fake laughter of the person getting clowned. Its the same deal with smart people from what I remember, you would get jokes about

Now, this is what most likely happened.

In my era, nikkaz clowned EVERYBODY.

We talked about the fat nikkaz, the skinny nikkaz, the tall nikkaz, the short nikkaz, the smart nikkaz, the dumb nikkaz.

The only issue is that these so called "smart" nikkaz were overly sensitive and socially awkward and didn't know how to jive back on nikkaz and went home with their feelings hurt on some, "When I get big, I'ma move out the hood, marry a White girl, and never come back:sadbron:"

It's not solely about being 'smart.'

Let's not pretend that kids didn't dumb themselves down as they got older. It wasn't 'cool' to like school. It wasn't 'cool' to be interested in learning. I got less interested in school as I got older. Back in the day everything else was more important than sitting down and trying to learn: sports, clowning, what kind of shoes you had, girls, etc.

This topic seems to depend on when you actually went to school. How many ya'll remember when video games (that weren't NBA/NFL) were seen as lame? How many of ya'll remember when anime (that wasn't DBZ) was seen as lame? This stuff just recently became popular in the mainstream (last 10 years). It wasn't always popular enough to be widely discussed in black schools. Back in the day you had to keep some of your interests on the low because you'd get mocked for having them. You had people you hung with who knew what you were talking about but trying to be open about certain stuff would paint you as a lame. The same went for actual interest in school subjects beyond sports, band, etc.

Even the 'smart' folks (who didn't dumb themselves down) had to put on a front to pretend like they were 'cool'. And ya'll know exactly what I'm talking about.

I believe I started to notice this in the transition from middle to high school. Certain folks acting brand new, people you knew in middle school turning their nose up to you, being apart of a click, etc. Hell, anything else was more important than school work.

@The Amerikkkan Idol you hit me with a lot of emotion here, let me attempt to keep it fact based for you

1) John mcwhorter is openly critical of the culture of anti-intellectualism that as an educator, he felt hinders us in the classroom, thus hinders us in life - he wrote a follow up book called “WINNING THE RACE” << that’s something someone who hates black people would do?

2) I posted that video showcasing that Barack agrees that the “acting white” thing exists.

3) I posted that video to illustrate that Barack has been criticized openly as not “black enough” as it cost him an election - he knows a lot about this topic - with that said he was a lackluster president, did NOTHING for our people - see how one has nothing to do with the other? :pachaha:

I got picked on for being smart in elementary.

I wasn't a 'nerd', as in glasses and super weird kid or anything, I was just sharp and super bored with the pace that I was learning at. My own cousins used to (and still) get at me for having an answer for everything. Kids would get at me for that and for being poor. I also had problems with teachers which is why I ended up in GT classes, which made shyt worse. Most of the kids in there were older and from better homes with more money so I felt very alienated there.

It was a lot of jokes but there was some fights which was wack because I had already switched schools from fukking up white kids behind some foul shyt that happened...I get to a school with more black kids and now I gotta fight them too.

Between friction with kids at school and not really being able to concentrate because of my neighborhood being hot...I ended up back in regular classes after a year and basically just put my head down.

Nah this shyt does happen tho to a small degree

Not tryna flex or brag but I've been in accelerated/AP classes since elementary school. Most other blac students was cool with me but there was a decent amount that considered us blac kids in advanced classes to be c00ns One breh said I was tryna be white by being in them classes....it was only like that in elementary and middle school tho. Once high school hit, nobody really hated or tried to clown. This was in the late 80s to mid 90s btw

My dad grew up in the 70s and went thru similar shyt....nikkas in his hood would clown him for getting good grades n shyt, tryna go to college.

Later on when I was in college, I was smoking with sum of my cousin's homies. These was street dudes...we all started talking about high school and one of em was like "i bet you was one of them smart nikkas, ha"....he said "smart nikka" with a :scust: look on his face

Shyt kinda had me like:martin:

Yeah one part of what you said rings some bells for me. When I went to the magnet, it was actually a school within a school. So general pop was sketchy and cats was looking at me sideways from day one. Even at that magnet I was a standout so ob an academic level my peer was mainly this guy from Bangladesh and a c00nish black guy. It was a no win situation.....

I've never seen anyone black being mocked for being smart. I have seen young cats accuse brehs of using big words, I've heard people say "You talk white" or making fun of and calling a nerd hobby white but not outright intelligence. There is a difference in being socially awkward and having nerd hobbies to being smart
