Lol. That rarely happens . Plus I put in the extra hours to avoid doing anything on the weekend because I had a training class ( visual studio + MTM + TFS ) the next day.

99% of the time I work 6:30 - 3PM.

Breh, why are you still a sys admin? I'm not sure what you work on but you need to specialize. Way less work and way more pay. It's why I dove head first in to Security (IAM and authentication).

When I was a sys admin, I'd get pages all the time because servers would crash or backups weren't working correctly. Now I rarely get paged.

To be honest, complacency. That is a character flaw that I can admit. I am also tied up in my business that I run outside of work, so I am drained after 17-hour days man.

IT is probably one of the easiest jobs out there once you progress past a certain point. My day consist of meetings, listening to vendors, lunch with vars, and occasionally working on projects. The only hard part is the grind to pull away from the pack when you are at a Helpdesk/admin level. That was a lot of studying, labbing, and researching. But once you separate yourself it's smooth sailing. Our lead security admin is such a fraud and he's making 135k. That's not a ton for security in healthcare but he literally knows nothing except how to BS in meetings.

If anybody is interested in the path I took and the areas in the data center that are worth learning to progress the fastest, hit me up.

I got a friend who drives garbage trucks and he talks down on me because I don't have a real job like him. :francis:

This is the worst part about working in IT is the amount of dead weight in the field. If you know your stuff you'll be doing your job and theirs if your not careful.

I know tons of people making 80-90K that have zero technical ability. Companies normally give them supervisory roles because their so good at kissing up to management. The reason so many companies are getting breached these days is because of clueless IT Managers and Supervisors.

There is a reason why most employers require a bachelors degree.

I've been in IT for the past 13 years. I've worked at some of the top MANAGEMENT consulting firms. Deloitte, IBM etc.

I can tell you if you are going to work for a top tier firm like that, you most likely need a degree.

But like also said, if you are just going to be a code monkey or a network guy, you can probably get in without a degree and make good money.

But it's harder to get on somewhere without a degree.
bruh those are management consulting firms. they don't really focus on IT unless the project requires them to, and I could see that during the interview process. I turned down offers from both Deloitte & Accenture. Didn't like the pretentious culture or payscale. I remember my final interview was with some george bush looking clown who looked like he sold his soul just to make 'partner' status. whole thing just seemed wack to me.

If I'm a CTO or IT director at a company and I need some direction on my company's network infrastructure, I'm for damn sure calling a Cisco, Microsoft, WWT, or Dimension Data before I call a Deloitte/Accenture/PwC, etc. If I need help with my overall business strategy, then I'd call one of those guys you talking about

You should appreciate this, provided you haven't seen it before. I'm sure you've had one or two experiences found In there.
I went from :mjlol: to :mjcry: to :mjlol:at "she doesn't see me as human, she sees me as an IT".

The just call us "support":mjcry:, that's all we are. I been calling myself customer success in my email sig, but...deep down, I know the truth:wow:

I'm just support

Again, you're telling lies. There's no certification that'll give someone just getting into IT 70k. Nobody is going to trust their infrastructure to seone with a certification and zero job experience.

But if you have 2-4 years of relevant experience there are certs that you can pass in 3 months that'll get you 70k and more.
City workers here in Chicago get 90k after 4 years. :yeslawd:

Lol my buddy does the same and he calls peoples idiots behind their door.

He once told me an old woman spent TWO DAYS trying to figure how to turn on her computer. Jesus.
I have a lot of sympathy for the totally computer illiterate. One day a guy asked me in a ticket how to copy the url for his site and I was :mindblown:

How did this man get on the internet?:dahell: It's the people who are illiterate but want to be belligerent because of it that I can't stand.:pacspit: them
