this is the problem.. folks were so pre-conditioned to have music put in their lap, they just stopped looking.. i stay digging for music.. theres so much good music out here.. :wow:

maybe i should put the homie @stomachlines onto game.. seems like #TheRecordBreakingCrew is something he might need right about now.. :ld:

i appreciate it man but i'm good. i too, have been one of those ones who's always kept his ear to the streets and net to always stay afloat on what was what and who was who but hip hop and rap music just ain't got the same feel to me no more. it doesn't "wow" me like it use too. like i said, i'll probably always keep the classics from like 88' to 96' in rotation but as far as everythin' else, i'm good.

I think most folks have an issue with the idea that in order to be "successful" you need to be an extremely watered down version of what rappers were like in the 90s.

Back then albums like "The Diary" received top ratings in rap magazines, and you knew that other rap fans would be copping it based on those reviews alone, it gave rap fans something to talk about, tracks to discuss, that feeling of being part of the community. So while people today may be able to find talent if they look hard enough, they will only be able to discuss that rap talent with others also willing to "look hard enough", and this limits the hip hop experience in my opinion, because you can't talk about best rap releases of the year for example, if only a handful of people you know listened to what you are listening to.

If what you said is true. That is a horrible excuse to complain about the rap music today.

Forums like this give people a platform to discuss all kinds of albums. For example, there was a big ass thread on Lil Ugly Mane, another thread on the hottest up and coming MC's in NY etc etc.

I think that it just boils down to age so sometimes a lot of cats are stuck in the 90s or the 90s sound and their ears won't allow them to open up to music of today. The generational gap has become somewhat of a barrier

@ OP,

I made this thread and cats tried to tell me that I was losing interest in hip hop.

It's the fact that the talent pool is decreasing exponentially. I also concur with what others are saying about it being like that in other genres as well.

shyt ain't hitting like it used to.

naw man, i hear what you sayin'. the shyt ain't been the same in a long ass time. it just ain't got that "glow" to it no more :to:

i don't care what anyone says, it's been different now for years and years :yeshrug:

What I find abhorrent is that they come at you as if what you say has no value or truth at all. Of course you still have an interest in something that you have been into since your younger years. This board trips me out sometimes like everyone must be lying or trying to troll. As a fan, it sucks not having new artists that are up to snuff. I'm not one of those cats just amassing music just to have it. I want artists who are putting out quality to put my money behind. That's me. If an artist's music isn't resonating, there's nothing you can do except be honest.

Some people tie in childhood nostalgia into records (myself included) and then get upset when records these days don't give them that same feeling. For example, Drake 'Started From The Bottom' is actually a catchier song than Jadakiss "We Gon Make It" but We Gon Make It reminds me of smoking blunts in High School ditching class so it holds more weight.

There's a lot of new and interesting music coming out, if you are looking. I get hit off with so much above average music I have trouble getting through it all. Great problem to have.

its not that talent is disappearing, its because of the labels

IMO the most talented artists these days are really good producers, Im not seeing any genre pushing limits like edm/hip hop production
