I stood for the whole show, but I can't get the image out of my head of turning around during Kanye's solo part when he was standing on that box.

I turned around and 40-50% of the people I could see were sitting down. I felt like an idiot because I was literally the only person in my row still standing. Kanye's part was damn near an intermission. Nobody sat during Jay's solo medley.

This isn't to say that a Kanye SB show wouldn't be tailored to get the crowd amped up, but I was with a girl who didn't know Jay's solo shyt like that and she was still standing during "Where I'm From" and she didn't even know the shyt.

Jay is a showman.

exactly....people in here thinking the only way to be a showman is to dance, use theatrics, etc....while those help, the most important things you need are the music, crowd control, and stage presence....and jay has all 3 of those...he puts on enough theatrics to keep people entertained: live band; letting the big name dj for the night shine: just, timbo, pharrell, etc.; good light show; pyro; etc...but he's always the star cause of the 3 things i named....and especially cause of the music....he never lets anything outshine the music....and the crowd loves it cause that's why they there...i've seen him stop rapping and let the audience finish verses for him word for word easily...not cause he doesnt know the words, but just to check the vibe of the audience and to keep them engaged...

...what this thread is showing me is a lot of these people saying they've been to a jay show, havent been to one of his shows since hard knock life to present date.....

I swear it feels like the twilight zone reading these comments on here. Jay-Z is not a showman? Are you kidding me? The Black album tour, Made in America tour, Watch the throne tour etc. Jay can rock a crowd like no other. Jay got so many hits that every color, race, or creed can relate too. I don't know what his reasons for declining but this idea that he wouldn't be a fit for a super bowl crowd is blasphemy.

Jay isn't a showman in the sense of having an animated stage show and huge effects... he has solid stage presence and hits that resonate more for a particular audience (mainly an audience that's geared toward rap and/or amenable to rap) ... SB performances aren't his lane, man. He'd have to bring out Beyonce, RiRi, etc.

the SB audience (in attendance) is not really amenable to rap.

The NFL doesnt pay for Superbowl performances. Plain and simple reason why a artist like Jayz wouldn't perform at it. He doesn't need the promotion from performing there, or to reach out to a new fan base. He might not even make another album
