A good performance doesn't hinge on good music...or even music you enjoy. I've been to plenty of concerts/festivals where the performance was amazing even tho I didn't enjoy the music/thought the music was bad. music and performance can be easily separated from one another, yes, people's favorite shows are where the two coalesce but each can be graded alone.
Edit: music isn't the sole reason everyone goes to a concert, I've gone to plenty of concerts to see the person perform live even tho I didn't enjoy the current album they were touring, madonna's MDNA tour is a prime example for me.
i didnt say a performance hinged on the music, i said it's apart of the performance...dancing, the stage setup, props, the music, etc. are all sums that help make up the performance whole....they arent separate entities like you're trying to say.....one (music), along with other things helps make the other (performance)....true, you can enjoy different parts of the whole, while not enjoying the whole, like you said you did at festivals...
i didnt say music was the sole reason people go to a concert, i said it's the main reason....meaning while there are other reasons to go, you mainly go for the music & experience to hear that music done live by said artist.......you said you went to see madonna just to see her even though you didnt enjoy the current album she had.....well, i bet you enjoyed other music she had, so you probably wanted to see her perform those songs live, just for the experience right?....there you go, prime example of what i'm talking about....i've done that for established artists.....i might not have been feeling the current album, but i went cause of old music i knew they'd perform just so i could see them perform it live for the experience....
