So is gentrification really that bad?

Yea poor people get forced out of their homes and whatnot and it seems to have some racial undertones but not really. It really just got to do with the haves and havenots.

I know y’all tired of seeing old broken down crime filled hoods in major cities. It seem to do more good than harm :yeshrug:

Well I guess you know what they chose:manny:
Cities and the state would much rather have good filled suburbs than cities.
Gentrifying could actually help a down and it cut like Detroit.

I guess the problem people have with gentrification is that instead of cities helping to improve these areas while black people and other minorities are there, they wait until White people start pouring in. They could’ve done it all along but they don't. That's why race is brought into the discussion

Fix the issue of poverty instead of making people play musical chairs. Give people fair access to home ownership. Especially when the land (especially up north) has been owned since the 1700's.

Moving impoverished people to areas without mass transit and other amenities will create strains on those suburban governments and create communities of concentrated poverty, not to mention more pollution and social issues

The social justice issues that come with gentrification are nearly as bad as its long term effects.

Almost every city Government that backs policies favoring gentrification bring with them a social code. This is when you see black kids not allowed to play on the stoop, older model cars getting ticketed for shyt like dirty license plates, the cultural backbone of neighborhoods being marginalized to the point of obscurity (look at the west Indian parade in Brooklyn)

It’s a lot deeper than just one group moving in and another moving out. That’s what dumb Coli nikkas say to make themselves feel better about Atlanta. “Well blacks are gentrifying blacks!” No such thing

It’s not a haves and have nots social class warfare, it’s an arm of white supremacy that allows non black and Hispanic groups to manipulate the economic and socio-political framework of our communities (of which we’ve been historically shunned) It’s very deliberate and it’s very racial.

&the hood suburbs you’re talking about that spawn from gentrification in cities just leave Black people further and further in cycles of poverty. You go to some spots in PGC or Long Island and our people are living worse than nikkas in Barry Farms or Bedstuy ever did.

They tried that. Have you ever seen a brand new housing project...they dnt come pre-rundown and crime riddden. Overtime they became like that so why invest money into something the people ain’t ready for.

Overtime all new housing and building developments start to become rundown. That's where the cities responsibility to keep these places up come in. They are quick to fix broke traffic lights, widen sidewalks, maintain lawns, fix potholes etc in predominantly white areas. In black areas it takes forever to get the city give assistance.

What so bad about having some social codes. The old way just didn’t work man.The United States will never tackle poverty. Poverty is a world wide plague. Name one big county who had the poverty shyt under control.

I understand your points and thanks for the long reply because I’m really trying to understand..

Name a solution then? If you on the bottom totem poll in society you gne be shytted on hard facts. America dnt care about the hood. Cube in BoysNthehood let us know

They don't build new housing projects outside of places like New York.

Gentrification leads to the private ownership of public housing, shifting from projects to section 8, which shifts the responsibility for the upkeep of the property from the government to a person/contractor.

I have an idea though that you are starting to allude to inherent inferiority talking points though... because "why invest money into something people aint ready for" is Reagan/small govt/republicac talking points... :jbhmm:

I'm calling this. You are white. In your OP you said that race was a factor but not really. Yeah @BmoreGorilla this dude exposing himself

yes because of the practices that create such environments. while division between rich and poor "might" be consider a naturally occurring fracture see thru out life, when people exploit, deny and take advantage of someone (poor) to better their position and refuse responsibility to those who they take from, it creates a world where everyone is out for self and where resentment is also natural.

you can't blame people for wanting to rob you when you didn't want to come to their area UNTIL you basically changed everything about it. and, like i said, the corrupt and racist practices that occur at political levels (gerrymandering, voting laws, etc), thru economic funding AND opportunity, and what we experience and push on ourselves, in terms of ideas about groups and classes of people, socially all make a very poisonous cocktail that make the forces of gentrification vile...
