If it were IBO, they'd be able to tell a better story.
IMO, the best chance for this live-action Gundam is if they go for the realistic side of Gundam. Rando high school kid with psychic powers finding vehicles of mass destruction and then becoming murder gods is high key potential for a goofy film.
At least in IBO it makes sense. No psychic powers, you just got some orphans that were forcefully made into cyborgs which makes them natural pilots. Tekkadan is also somewhat a Spartacus story with mechas. Easy peasy

Yeah, western animation has some good adaptations of Japanese IPs. Voltron from DreamWorks was lit.
