Objectively speaking this ramble by Lupe, while articulate, fails to address the true issue at hand...

Should Drake's credibility as a rapper be done?

These lukewarm responses by established premier MCs got me thinking a lot of these rapper ghostin and don't want to ruffle too many feathers in fear of being exposes themselves. :lupe:

Yup, it's almost as if it's a pandora's box or cold war of nukes and there was just an unwritten rule in hip-hop to not expose what really goes on in studio sessions.

We all know about Dre, Puffy, Kanye ... but we can fall back on the fact we enjoy them more as producers or guys with an "ear for a hit".

We all heard the Nas-Jay-Elec-Untitled Album and Jay-Z-Lupe-Black Album rumors, but we shrugged it off because they each had huge catalogs of work and a classic under their belt.

But this one about Drake is different since he doesn't have a huge catalog and it's during his ascension/peak of his career, not the later downslide where it's kind of "acceptable".

This makes me wonder about basically every rapper who had/have a crew-label-artists around them, but the other rappers never got albums or only got indy releases.

I'm very curious how this all plays out in the end ...

Lol @ people still trying to put Drake in Jay-Z's league.

How about we worry about that problem when it arrives ? I'll definitely concede Jay is no longer in GOAT talks if a bunch of records start dropping with someone else rapping the verses and hooks I've grown to appreciate over the years.

Until then :camby: with what essentially amounts to a fantasy scenario.

Now that I think of it some of the references Drake would make in some songs didn't make sense coming from a kid from suburban Toronto... I just chalked it up to him being really worldly and perceptive (qualities that most great writers have) but now I'm not sure..

Little lines like "Coolin out in South Gwinnett like Lou Will" were probably written by n1ggas that grew up outside of metro Atlanta.. It's such a specific reference to a small area in the boonies that nobody that just visits or lives in Atlanta city limits would think of...Or was Drake such a fan of Blue Chip basketball in the mid 2000s that he followed Lou William's high school career as a young child actor in Canada?

Lupe is throwing Drake a Bone, these industry cats are all friends. But I think Lupe knows deep down he would NEVER want anyone to question his pen game as an Emcee cause he loves the art. Drake is a Brand and makes a lot of people money. The Industry doesn't want him destoryed but they don't realize, The rules of Hip Hop have NEVER been controlled by the industry. Drake card was pulled period.

Kanye West and Dre came in the game as producers. Everybody knew that they weren't rappers, and they didn't boast about being the best lyrical rappers either. It's always been common knowledge that Kanye collabs with artists all the time and prides himself as a guy that can mesh unexpected sounds together.

Drake came in as a rapper, and he was never seen in the same light as a Kanye West. Drake fans are reaching with the comparison.

Drake fans are really getting ridiculous trying to compare this to dre diddy and kanye. shyt I am (maybe was) a Drake fan too but Jesus :mindblown:. Like they're just throwing shyt at the wall to see if it sticks.

The gawd has spoken :blessed:

That being said... Drake didn't live it he witnessed it from his folk's pad, then Quentin scribbled in his notepad and created his life...no amount of pretty words can change that fact :manny:

You implying Lu uses ghostwriters :comeon:
That man is a ghostwriter
So is drake tho :sas2:

I really don't believe its as common as these industry dudes try to make it seem. Not among the respected rappers. I think they are caping up for Drake and a handful of others who we probably don't consider to be great rappers. I think people are deliberately trying to confuse getting creative writing input from friends, group members or family (Del is Ice Cubes cousin) with literally hiring a person to write and record songs for you which is what Drake did. I think theres a huge difference

If that was the case, why would Meek even react? If Ross, Hov, Kendrick etc etc were ALL using references from unknown artist, why would Meek pretend to be shocked? If he just felt like shytting on Drake theres a lot of other shyt he could say other than "Don't compare me to rappers who don't write their own shyt". Meek is retarded but I give him more credit than to attack Drake for something he knows everyone else does.

And if it was common place than why is it still hidden? How come ghostwriters haven't stepped up and claimed credit for all these hits? No lawsuits or anything with all the money involved? Like @gator_king said, we have accepted pretty much everything else in hip hop, why would ghostwriting be the last taboo. Diddy said that line 15 years ago.

Industry folks and industry dikk riders love playing that "It happens all the time. Oh you still think its real lol, Santa Clause isn't real either" when these stories come out. But I notice nobody ever has many specific examples. Just one or two anecdotes and "trust me I've seen it with my own eyes".....
