Right now, I'm counting my blessings.
I realized I worked harder than I ever did in my whole life in the course of one year last year.
Right now where I'm living is literally a block and a half away from where I was sleeping in a car last year around this exact same time.
Like I really had to work my ass off to get to this point.
I used my laptop to go use BK and McD's internet to find work and make money
I saved money by sleeping in my car and when I would go to the YMCA for a night or two to sleep in a bed and have a shower and clean up.
I did odd jobs for a while then I found work with the SPLC in Manhattan.
Then I found work at an insurance firm on wall street, and used the internet at BK and McD's again to take my online testing to get myself registered for the state exam which I passed to get my license which is good for two years so now I'm a licensed insurance broker.
I got invested in my own clothing designs again and through some luck and knowing the right people was able to rent out a retail spot for two weeks to do a pop-up shop for my clothing designs. Made money and got press and went to fashion week events.
Worked that into a spot in Jackson heights and now I'm living in Bushwick...
I still can't believe I went from being homeless...to working on wall street...to owning and operating my own shop and business in less than a year.
I'll admit, there were times I literally felt like giving up. I was dealing with depression at the time too and my changing living situations combined with work and money situations really affected my mood. But I had to push through it cause I knew it would help me out.
I had no help from my parents...whatsoever. I slept on a few friends couches too.
All and all it was fun...now that I'm typing this on my new laptop and have all my stuff together in one apartment my mental health and physical health has definitely improved.
But damn...what a year!
