This one has to do with a West Indian breh that lived in Canada, and West Indians are the only Black people up there...and for a while they were treated alright according to him

So he was treated like shyt in Toronto when moved there due to the raise of the drug trade...right...

He then moves to New York and he's like West Indians are treated better than AAs...cause White people got AAs as the Bad Negroes...

In drug-trafficking and importing cases, blacks are twenty-seven times as likely as whites to be jailed before their trial takes place, and twenty times as likely to be imprisoned on drug-possession charges.


After I had moved to the United States, I puzzled over this seeming contradiction--how West Indians celebrated in New York for their industry and drive could represent, just five hundred miles northwest, crime and dissipation. Didn't Torontonians see what was special and different in West Indian culture? But that was a naïve question. The West Indians were the first significant brush with blackness that white, smug, comfortable Torontonians had ever had. They had no bad blacks to contrast with the newcomers, no African-Americans to serve as a safety valve for their prejudices, no way to perform America's crude racial triage.

So...it's not just African immigrants that are realizing this in the USA, it's West Indians too.

I guess all the West Indian immigrants in Flatbush,Canarsie,Crown Heights are living very well. And the African immigrants in Harlem and the Bronx are living very well. Uganda Be Kidding Me.

Zora Bikangaga was born in Fresno, California and grew up in a white suburb in the state’s north called Healdsburg. As one of the only two black boys in the neighborhood, Bikangaga was the subject of racial slurs and threats of physical bullying. He was called terms like porch monkey and a c00n; a shopkeeper once asked him to empty his pockets to see if he was stealing; and a childhood friend once told him to sit in the back of the class “where you belong.”

Growing up in the 1990s, Bikangaga didn’t quickly grasp where the hatred and racism were coming from. The son of Ugandan immigrants, he took pride in the history of his family. His father was a cardiovascular surgeon, his mother studied public health and was a lactation consultant, and his grandfather was a regional monarch back in Uganda. The notion within the family was that they “were just as good as everybody else” in the city. Yet the attacks against him became more pronounced as he grew into adolescence, and Bikangaga, who eventually stretched out to a gangly 6 feet 6 inches (198 cm), understood that “I wasn’t the cute black kid anymore.”

But it wasn’t until he undertook a social experiment in college that Bikangaga clearly grasped the narrative about being black in America. The summer before he transferred to Westmont College in Santa Barbara, Bikangaga pretended to his future roommate that he was a Ugandan student and put on a thick accent. When he reported to school, he wore a colorful traditional shirt and sandals that he had bought in Uganda, and falsely impressed not only his roommate but his new friend’s family too.

“Immediately, they were so warm to me and so friendly,” Bikangaga recently toldthe weekly radio show, This American Life. “I had never had someone react to me in that way.”

As an African I've never seen this shyt...this is news to me. In fact I and other Africans I know have often gotten the opposite reaction from white people with negative stereotypes and complete ignorance

It's nuanced.

The West (say UK, France, USA, Portugal, Spain etc.) hates its local or let's say somewhat homegrown blacks. It's known for example AA's get treated much better in Europe than America... because they're seen as American Blacks. Likewise a UK black person gets much better treatment in the US or France than his own country (i've seen this).

When shopping in a luxury store in London, it can often be a negative experience or come with odd looks or comments.

However, when i'm in theUSA i'm hit with the from people that black people from England exist.

A BIG BIG thing is that travelling between continents of Europe, Africa and N. America is expensive. It means you have SOME money to be there.

Native cacs assume their local negroes are poor. A foreign negro they assume has money or comes from money. Which contributes to treating them better. They're here to study, do a well-paying job or simply spend money as a tourist.

When I travel (mostly with my girlfriend who is fully black - Habesha - but looks "ambiguous", which I think contributes to this) it is usually assumed that I am American. America is very far from the majority of places I visit, it is assumed I have money and people tend to treat me well - hoping i'll spend or whatever. However, i've known people to travel and assumed to be a local African breh or brehette - and that always goes badly because they treat the local brehs badly. Assumed to prostitutes, spoken to rudely, touched inappropriately the works.

Facts. Exact same thing happened to me. Think it's down to novelty factor, assuming i have money and/or education and the fact i'm only visiting.

To be clear. White people in the West do this. A foreign black is treated better than the local black.

AA's get the same when they move/travel. Like seriously brehs come to London and you'll be hit with the heavy KRS gif. Make you say dumb shyt like Coates did about blacks in Paris. nikka it will be sweet for you, it's not sweet for the local blacks.

This isn't even just an American thing, it's a western thing.

Black immigrants are treated better than blacks born in western countries by white people, in most cases at the low/mid level. White people love being praised/worshipped and they'll always treat any black group that has no entitlement and no real ties to a counry better. Those are the ones they classify as "safe blacks" and the ones that they can easily control because most of them are just out there for greener pastures and to eke out a living. So trying to trouble white people is the last thing on their minds. That's just the way it's everywhere else in the world.

You AAs just like thinking everyone is out to get you and that isn't the case. I'm sure you as an African American would get better treatment in most places in Africa than most indigenous Africans living in those places.

I usually disagree with you but this is correct from my experience.

Foreign blacks get treated better than the local blacks in the west. Most local blacks tend to have lower incomes and often blamed for a whole bunch of other stuff and probably call out cacs and their BS.

Tyler Stovall, a history professor at the University of California, Berkeley, is quoted as saying,

"In many ways, African Americans came to France as a sort of privileged minority, a kind of model minority, if you will—a group that benefited not only from French fascination with blackness, but a French fascination about Americanness."


In Africa, a black American in Ghana would be treated TREMENDOUSLY, that I have seen for a fact. Me Ghanaian from the UK is treated with more respect than the average local Ghanaian breh. It's money.

I feel like a lot of AA's don't understand this and think this one is specific to them only when it is not.
