Yes and no

Atlanta was and still is a transient city.

However Atlanta uniquely has decades worth of black history and culture that no city On the west coast can compete with.

If you really think about, the west coast ( I love the west coast and the people ) doesn't have enough black folks to really cultivate black culture that's exclusive.

If you credit the west coast for these things you ultimately have credits other ethnicities and cultures as well.

I say this with respect to both the west coast and Atlanta.
LA and more specifically South Central had the Jazz corridor. South Central Avenue produced alot of jazz and respected artist. Going back to the 40's and 30's.

DJ mustard was mostly influenced by The Bay. His beats sound like Mobb music from the 90's and a little bit like old school Mac Dre.

He has mob music influence. But him and alot of LA producers sample that lil jon track "who you with ". From the chants to the eq sound effect.

Right.

Idk about the braids or the clothing part, first time I’ve heard that, but that funk sound that everyone associates with the west was definitely Midwest derived.

true for the most part although P-funk isn't from the mid west

The closest thing I’d say that the west had to an “original” sound was that 1950’s R&B sound(T-Bone Walker, Johnny “Guitar” Watson, Charles Brown, etc) which was basically an extension of the Blues coming out of East Texas and Louisiana.

all facts

Never knew this. I didn't know J.Prince was the one who connected Suge to HarryO. So snoop and them were just chilling out in Houston early on in like '91? Just chillin with Big Mike and Mr.3-2?

On vladtv Freeway Rick said he connected Harry o to Suge.

That's true but your comparing decades worth of black culture in California to centuries worth in Georgia.

You can't really ignore that. It's not like black people were always on the west coast.

West coast cities are fairly new.

The only true credit belongs to black people not any cac made region or city.

Folks in the south were rapping like the west coast until triple six crushed thru the door.

And their style was more similar to what the mid west was doing anyway.

But really, the west coast influenced every region the 90s including the east coast

But carry on.

nah, J. Prince gave the idea after Harry caught a big fed case, Harry brought Suge in on his own as his little nikka, but Suge rubbed J the wrong way with how reckless he was.

J wasn't trying to get caught up in any bullshyt and wasn't trying to move with Suge at all so he basically told Harry good luck, wish you the best, you don't owe me nothing.

J. Prince also told them to scoop up Dre, and Snoop wasn't in Houston, Big Mike and 3-2 were out in Cali when they linked with Snoop, Snoop was staying with them.

But snoop took a lot more than just "We don't love these hoes" from 3-2

listen to this, now it sounds like 3-2 was rapping like Snoop when it was the opposite

Rap actually comes from the west coast :lolbron:

"The Watts Prophets poets and World's longest performing "Rap" group from Watts, Los Angeles, California, were the first Rap artist to publish the common law trademark word "Rappin™" on an album, establishing the global title of the new American art form called "Rap"."

Socially conscious BARS in 1969 :wow:
every region was technically influenced by tha Coast:troll:

Outkast to me was the first act that was uniquely southern outside of that bass shyt. That P Funk tho is some east coast shyt. George Clinton is from NJ. Plus east coast producers like Erick Sermon were the first ones sampling that real heavy

i thought most of Parliament Funkadelic was from Detroit and Plainfield NJ

George Clinton didn't innovate P Funk, altogether, some people like Sly and The Family Stone and Tower of Power were known to be innovators of P Funk. But what people forget is that Parliament/Funkadelic developed a lot of their shyt in Detroit, plus a lot of their musicians like Bootsy Collins were from other areas besides Plainfield.

Exactly. Ground zero to funk is the south. James Brown in a genre on his own. New Orleans and Georgia is the birthplace for funk

When funk started to evolve it had a big spark out in Cali with Sly and others, then when it finally matured, Ohio took the crown. They can rightfully say they were the capital of funk in the 70s. Cali innovated the shyt out of funk tho. I will give them that

P-funk is also a genre in its own right and it was primarily Jersey/Ohio/Detroit.
